When you think of a vacation, you might dream of a faraway destination, taking in the sights and tasting the local cuisine as you explore a destination far from from home. However, you really don't have to travel far to enjoy a relaxing break from your everyday life as the city you call home may offer plenty of attractions, shops and eateries that combine for the perfect "staycation."
WalletHub compared nearly 200 cities across America to determine which are the best places for a staycation and which are the worst. Among the list are three cities in Colorado, including one that found a spot in the top 15:
- No. 15: Denver
- No. 74: Colorado Springs
- No. 150: Aurora
Coming in at No. 15 overall, Denver received high marks in both the recreation and food & entertainment categories. Aurora, however, ranked lowest on the list thanks to lower marks across all categories.
These are the 10 best cities for staycations in the U.S.:
- Cincinnati, Ohio
- Orlando, Florida
- Las Vegas, Nevada
- Honolulu, Hawaii
- Chicago, Illinois
- St. Louis, Missouri
- Tampa, Florida
- Salt Lake City, Utah
- Atlanta, Georgia
- San Diego, California
To determine its ranking, WalletHub compared 182 cities around the country based on three factors: recreation, food & entertainment and rest & relaxation. These factors were then evaluated across 41 relevant metrics, including parks per capita, walk score, hiking trails per capita, shopping centers per capita, water & amusement parks per capita, movie costs, nightlife options per capita, festivals per capita, average cocktail price, diversity of restaurants, beauty salon costs, public beaches per capita and idealness of summer weather, among others.
