Doechii called out President Donald Trump for deploying the military amid protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids as she accepted her first-ever BET award.

On Monday (June 9), Doechii won Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the 2025 BET Awards held at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

The Grammy award-winning rapper took the stage to deliver a powerful acceptance speech, during which she addressed the ICE protests and President Donald Trump's deployment of the National Guard unfolding just outside the award ceremony.

"There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order," Doechii began her speech after acknowledging the other "extremely talented" women nominated in her category. "Trump is using military forces to stop a protest. I want y'all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that?"

Doechii's speech came after protests broke out on Friday (June 6) across LA over ICE raids happening throughout the city. Trump announced on Saturday (June 7) that he was deploying the National Guard to LA to "liberate" the city from "Migrant Invasion."

“Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free,” Trump wrote.

The move marked the first time a president called in the National Guard without a state’s request or consent in decades.

"People are being swept up and torn from their families," Doechii continued. "I feel like it is my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people."

The rapper asserted that Black, Latino, and transgender people, along with the people in Gaza, "deserve to live in hope and not in fear."

"I hope we stand together, my brothers and my sisters, against hate, and we protest against it," Doechii concluded her speech, which garnered roaring applause and a standing ovation.
