Three young sisters were found dead near a Washington campground, and authorities have determined they died from suffocation. The girls, Paityn Decker, 9; Evelyn Decker, 8; and Olivia Decker, 5, were discovered on June 2 near the Rock Island Campground in Chelan County. Their father, Travis Decker, is wanted for their murder and remains at large.

According to the Chelan County Sheriff's Office, the sisters were found with plastic bags over their heads and their wrists zip-tied. The girls had been visiting their father during a scheduled custody visit. Their mother, Whitney Decker, reported them missing when they did not return home as planned.

Whitney Decker, who had been co-parenting with Travis Decker, told police she noticed he was quieter than usual during their last exchange but did not suspect anything was wrong. Whitney had concerns about Travis's mental health, but he had never shown any red flags. Travis Decker, an Army veteran and member of the Washington National Guard, had been experiencing homelessness and was living out of his pickup truck.

The search for Travis Decker has intensified, with the involvement of multiple agencies, including the FBI, U.S. Marshals, and U.S. Border Patrol. Washington Governor Bob Ferguson has allocated emergency funds and National Guard resources to aid in the search. Authorities warn residents to keep their doors and windows locked as the manhunt continues.

The case has sparked calls for reform of Washington's Amber Alert system, as an alert was not issued when the girls were first reported missing. USA Today reports that Whitney Decker believes her daughters might still be alive if an Amber Alert had been issued. The Washington State Patrol stated that the situation did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert at the time.

Travis Decker is wanted on charges of kidnapping, first-degree murder, and custodial interference. The search for him continues as authorities sweep through local forests and wilderness areas.
