Breaking News and the Risks for Those Who Report It

June 10, 2025

The headlines and stories that have been coming out of Los Angeles are non-stop. Breaking news is breaking almost every hour. It’s hard to keep for consumers of news.

And the reporters assigned to cover what’s happening, it’s also hard if not impossible to keep up with the rapidly changing news.

And some reporters are discovering what it’s like to feel the effects of tear gas and in the case of at least one reporter, being hit by pepper balls or rubber bullets. One TV reporter for an Australian news channel was shot with a rubber bullet while reporting live from downtown Los Angeles on Sunday..

Reporting has always been a profession that can be dangerous at times depending on where you are and when you’re there And there have been street violence before and just ask anyone who is or has covered wars.

Having covered college campus protests way back in the 70’s, and getting tear gassed, it’s not a pleasant experience.

But when you sign up to be a reporter, you know that covering the news sometimes has its risks. Just ask any of them who are covering what’s happening in Los Angeles.
