Dramatic Video Shows Motorists Help Police Rescue Woman From Burning Car

A 68-year-old woman is in stable condition after being rescued from a burning car that flipped over on a highway in Chester, New York, early Sunday morning (June 8). The Chester Police Department, along with other emergency services, responded to the incident on Kings Highway near Knapps View Park.
Upon arrival, authorities found the woman trapped inside her vehicle, which was engulfed in flames. Officer Nicholas Contino was the first on the scene. He handed his fire extinguisher to a passing motorist and worked to locate the woman inside the car. Officer Contino managed to break the sunroof glass and, with the help of two motorists and a paramedic from Empress EMS, pulled the woman from the fiery wreckage.
The woman, a resident of Warwick, New York, suffered burns to about a third of her body and was immediately taken to Westchester Medical Center’s Burn Unit. She remains in stable condition. The Chester Police Department commended Officer Contino for his quick actions, stating that his efforts significantly increased the woman's chances of survival.
The woman's identity has not been released, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Just after 4am on Sunday, June 8th, units from the Town of Chester PD were dispatched with other emergency service agencies to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a rolled-over vehicle on Kings Highway near Knapps View Park. While they were responding, updates were given that the operator was trapped in the vehicle and the vehicle was on fire. Officer Nicholas Contino was the first police officer to arrive on scene. He gave his fire extinguisher to a passing motorist and worked to locate the operator in the vehicle. He was able to break the sunroof glass and free her from the vehicle. With the assistance of two passing motorists and a paramedic from Empress EMS, she was removed from the vehicle and away from the fire. The operator of the vehicle was identified as a 68 year old female resident of Warwick, NY. She suffered burns to about a third of her body and was transported to Westchester Medical Center’s Burn Unit, where she remains in stable condition. Officer Contino’s effort greatly increased the motorist’s chances for survival and he is commended for a job well done!
