Gov. Greg Abbott said he plans to deploy the Texas National Guard to multiple locations throughout the state ahead of scheduled protests this week.

According to ABC News, Abbott said he was deploying the Guardsmen to "ensure peace and order" and "uphold law and order" in anticipation of several protests throughout the state, including one in San Antonio.

"Peaceful protests are part of the fabric of our nation, but Texas will not tolerate the lawlessness we have seen in Los Angeles," Abbott's office said in a statement. "Anyone engaging in acts of violence or damaging property will be swiftly held accountable to the full extent of the law."

The move comes amid anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles, where President Donald Trump has activated the National Guard and the Marines.

"Peaceful protest is legal," Abbott said on Tuesday (June 10). "Harming a person or property is illegal & will lead to arrest."

Abbott pledged that the National Guard would "use every tool & strategy to help law enforcement maintain order."
