On June 11, Brian Wilson's family shared the sad news that the Beach Boys co-founder passed away at the age of 82. "We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away," reads a statement on Instagram. "We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercy." As soon as the word was out, some of the biggest names in the classic rock community took to social media to honor the immensely influential singer-songwriter.
Although his cause of death has yet to be revealed, Wilson was diagnosed with dementia in 2024 and put in conservatorship. Wilson set out on what would be his final tour less than two years before the diagnosis, playing his last live performance on July 26, 2022. The gig took place at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan and was the final date of his 2022 US summer co-headline tour with Chicago.
Wilson was joined by his Beach Boys bandmate Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin, who had a short tenure in the band from 1972-73. The setlist consisted of 20 songs including classics like "God Only Knows," "Good Vibrations" and "Surfin' USA."
