Emily Blunt Jokes She Always Has ‘Beef’ With This A-List Star

Emily Blunt has a bone to pick with a fellow A-list actress — or at least her characters do.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at a recent gala for the American Institute for Stuttering, the British actress addressed potential plot lines in the upcoming sequel to her 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, including reports that her character has become a powerful fashion executive who has a rivalry with her former boss, played by Meryl Streep, per People.

While Blunt, who noted that the past 20 years since the original film's release has gone by "in a blink," has not read a script for the follow-up to the beloved movie, she did joke that she and the Oscar winner "always have beef" in the films they star in together. In addition to The Devil Wears Prada, both actresses appeared in 2014's Into the Woods and 2018's Mary Poppins Returns.

"Why are Meryl and I so mean to each other in every movie we do?" she said. "We always have beef with each other. I don't know what it is. Let's hope we remedy it. I'm not sure."

Blunt's Devil Wears Prada co-star and brother-in-law Stanley Tucci also shared an update on the upcoming sequel earlier this year, confirming that the movie was in the works and reflecting on the "best" time he had filming the original.
