Billie Joe Armstrong Honors Brian Wilson With Beach Boys Cover: Listen

When news broke of Brian Wilson's passing on June 11, members of the rock community took to social media to pay their respects. His Beach Boys bandmates shared emotional messages about how he impacted them both musically and personally, and Paul McCartney shared a heartfelt tribute about how much he "loved" him.
Billie Joe Armstrong also took to social media to pay tribute to the singer-songwriter, sharing a cover of the Beach Boys' 1964 hit "I Get Around."
"Thank you Brian Wilson," the Green Day frontman wrote on Instagram. "I recorded a cover of ‘I get around’ a few years ago.. never got to share it. One of my all time favorite songs ever.”

Wilson's family shared the sad news about his passing on social media. "We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away," reads a statement on Instagram. "We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercy." He was 82 years old.
Although his cause of death has yet to be revealed, Wilson was diagnosed with dementia in 2024 and put in conservatorship. He delivered what would be his last live performance on July 26, 2022.
