What California and Texas Have Very Much in Common
June 16, 2025
Had a conversation this Father’s Day weekend with some family members who live in Texas and were visiting San Diego.
We got to talking about the cost of housing and gasoline. We all know there is a difference between the cost of living in California vs Texas.
Because of that, over the last decade or more, a good number of residents of the Golden State have moved to the Lone Star State.
But there are also people who have been living in Texas who have decided to pack their bags and move to other states.
According to a report by Newsweek, at the top of the list of states that Texans move to is, ironically, California, followed by Florida, Colorado, Oklahoma and Georgia.
According to Business Insider, among the top reasons some Texans are leaving for other states include a rising cost of living there in recent years, seeking a higher salary, and wanting more outdoor recreation opportunities.
Of course, as the old saying goes about the grass always being greener, there are a lot of reasons why people move from one state to another.
But with Californians’ most popular destination being Texas and Texans’ most popular destination being California, both states are more the same than they are different in appeal.
