Break-In Reported At Home Of Assassinated Minnesota Lawmaker

Police in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, are investigating a break-in at the home of state Representative Melissa Hortman, who was recently shot and killed along with her husband, Mark Hortman. The break-in occurred overnight on Tuesday (June 17), just days after the couple's tragic deaths on Saturday (June 14), which authorities have labeled a politically motivated attack.

According to the Brooklyn Park Police, the intruder pried off plywood covering a rear window and broke the glass to gain entry. Although the home appeared to have been searched, the family reported that nothing seemed to be missing. Crime scene investigators had already removed all evidence related to the shooting before the break-in.

The suspect in the shooting, Vance Boelter, 57, was apprehended after a 43-hour manhunt, the largest in Minnesota history. Boelter is accused of impersonating a police officer to gain access to the Hortmans' home, where he shot and killed them. He also allegedly attacked state Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, who survived. Boelter's list of targets included primarily Democratic officials and figures linked to abortion rights.

Authorities discovered a hit list with detailed notes about the victims, including information about Melissa Hortman's family and home. Boelter faces multiple federal and state charges, some of which could carry the death penalty if convicted.
