Chappell Roan is opening up the real impact "hateful" comments have on her.

The "Pink Pony Club" singer sat down with SZA in a conversation for Interview magazine published this week where the two stars reflected on past critiques from the public, per People. When the "Kill Bill" singer asked if Roan "gave a f--- about the backlash" she has faced in the past, the 27-year-old musician noted that she didn't care "until people started hating me for me and not for my art."

Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, said that things "changed" when haters began criticizing her for being Kayleigh rather than for the art she creates and music she makes even though, as SZA pointed out, they don't actually know her.

"But when things are taken out of context, people assume so much about you. I didn't realize I'd care so much," she said. "When it comes to my art, I'm like, 'B----, you can think whatever you want. You are allowed to hate it with all your guts.' But when it comes to me and my personality, it's like, 'Damn. Am I the most insufferable b---- of our generation?'"

The harsh personal critiques take their toll.

"It makes me cry," she admitted. "I don't know if it will ever feel okay to hear someone say something really hateful about me."

In May, the "Good Luck, Babe!" hitmaker shared why she thinks she gets labeled as a "villain" after making headlines in the past for calling out what she deems as disrespectful behavior.
