The man who broke into Eminem's home last year has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

CBS News Detroit reports that Matthew David Hughes received his prison sentence during a hearing on Tuesday, June 17. The 32-year-old man will serve a 15 to 30-year sentence after a jury found him guilty of first-degree home invasion and three to seven and a half years for aggravated stalking. Hughes will serve each sentence consecutively, which could result in a minimum time of 18 years behind bars. During that time, the real-life "Stan" cannot have any kind of contact with Eminem, born Marshall Mathers.

Eminem testified against Hughes during a trial held in May. Em told the jury how the man broke into his home in Clinton Township twice since 2020. Hughes was arrested last August after he allegedly entered through an unlocked door and stole a bicycle. He fled the scene after security identified him on the property. Hughes was arrested at a nearby Walmart four days later and remained in jail until his trial after he failed to post his $500,000 bail. He was on parole when he was caught on Eminem's property for a second time.

Hughes first broke into Eminem's home in Clinton Township on April 5, 2020. Police were called to the Manchester Estates gated community at 4 a.m. after the Detroit native woke up to see Hughes standing behind him in his living room. When Eminem asked him what he was doing there, Hughes said he was there to kill the rapper.

"No one, celebrity or not, should ever feel unsafe in their own home," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said in a statement. "This sentence sends a clear message that stalking and home invasion will be taken seriously in Macomb County and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Everyone has the right to privacy, safety, and peace of mind."

Eminem has not publicly commented on Hughes' sentence.
