Why Some Coffee Drinkers Will be Happy with a New Study

June 20, 2025

Another study is out about the benefits of drinking coffee and when you’re a coffee lover, you’re probably happy to see these.

And this study is a big one, that involved the tracking of nearly 50,000 American adults, analyzing coffee drinking habits and health outcomes of people who took part in U.S. government health surveys between 1999 and 2018.

Researchers say they adjusted for a range of lifestyle and health variables, including age, sex, race, income, smoking, alcohol use, exercise, diet quality, and preexisting conditions. Even then, they said the link between coffee and lower mortality still held up.

The study found that coffee drinkers have a 17-percent chance of living longer. But there is a caveat.

The life-extending benefits were only seen in people who drank black coffee or coffee with very little added sugar and saturated fat.

And the study found that it did not apply to decaffeinated coffee.

The researchers say their findings are in line with other studies that show that caffeine may play a protective role in boosting metabolism and reducing inflammation and improving insulin sensitivity.

So the takeaway they say is that coffee can be a healthy thing every morning as long as you don’t eat a bunch of donuts with it.
