6/22/25 Blog: I Leave the Country for 5 Minutes And All Hell Breaks Loose

June 23, 2025

HOLY SMOKES YOU GUYS I won't have much time to blather on about the amazing trip we took to South Korea and Japan (but I'm sure I'll get in plenty of blathering) because you may have heard that the US did a sneak attack against the Iranian regime that may or may not have ended their nuclear program for the time being. President Trump gave some brief comments about it the other night and you can watch them here.

I want to start off by saying if they ended the Iranian nuclear program the world is safer today because of it. There is no doubt Iran wants nukes for bad intentions. They enriched uranium well past the level needed for civilian energy production and are building Intercontinental missiles via their space program. I find myself in the interesting position of being happy about the outcome but once again skeptical of how the United States government casually launches military action these days. Today I will talk about why I think the Constitution should matter, even while I recognize that history is on the President's side on this one. But many, many unconstitutional actions do not make another one constitutional no matter how much we like the outcome. I am NOT in the idiotic "impeachment" camp on the left for sure, they gave up that right when Clinton bombed aspirin factories and they cheered him. I'm sure I will get a lot of "I'm never listening again" text messages as I try to make the argument for consistency in an inconsistent. Either the Constitution matters and we fight to protect it or it doesn't matter at all. And we are increasingly in "it doesn't matter at all" when it's convenient. This column has five excellent takes on the bombing and why it took Trump to finally do what all the neocons have been saying for years, which is make sure Iran can't make a nuclear weapon.

THE IRANIANS MOVED SOMETHING OUT OF FORDOW BEFORE THE ATTACKS And we don't know what it was. Sixteen trucks entered and then left the facility before the bombing, read more here.

SPEAKING OF CIVILITY I love that there is an active effort to bring civility back to our lives and political discussions. Today at 2:30 I've got Lori Leander from Reclaiming Civility and Sandra Brownrigg from Braver Angels Southern Front Range Alliance on to talk about what their organization is trying to do to elevate the dialogue in our communities again. They've got an event coming up called "Civility on the International Space Station with Astronaut Jim Dutton" and you can go. To find out more and reserve your seat, click here. Find out more about Braver Angels by clicking here!

COLORADO PED PATROL IS BEING SUED When I has the woman from SOSA about trapping predators on the internet many people emailed me to let me know there was a guy in Colorado doing the same thing, except he wasn't. Thomas Fellows under the guise of Colorado Ped Patrol allegedly live streamed "predator catches" and now is being sued by a man who says he was set up after questioning the organizations misrepresentations of its charity status. It's a tangled web but when I looked at this guy's stuff and then checked to see that his work had lead to ZERO convictions because he didn't cooperate fully with law enforcement I sort of felt this was scandal for clicks. Now he's got a new sort of scandal to cover and he's the star.

THE SKIRMETTI DECISION IS A BIG DEAL I know it happened last week but the Tennessee law banning medical interventions on children under 18 for gender issues has been upheld. This is great news. The Wall Street Journal editorial board writes about it here.

BARRY MORPHEW IS INDICTED IN THE DEATH OF HIS WIFE And in an indictment years in the making new evidence was given that makes it seem PRETTY CLEAR that Barry Morphew is probably the guy. Read more here.

IRAN SAYS IT WILL CLOSE THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ And Secretary of State Marco Rubio talked about it with Margaret Brennan. He is turning out to be a really, really good communicator for this administration. You really should watch this whole thing.

DOUGCO VOTES ON HOME RULE TOMORROW And I remain a NO vote solely because of the way this was rolled out with great speed and an already chosen set of candidates for the commission. I would happily consider it in the future when all three commissioners weren't trying to run the process. Read more here.

CPR IS SUING TO KEEP YOUR TAX MONEY And if they spent half as much time just finding new sponsors and less time fighting to keep the gravy train going they'd probably have fixed the shortfall by now. You can read about their lawsuit against Trump's Executive Order here, but if anyone can sue to keep the federal tax dollars flowing we are totally screwed. I'm sure they will find a friendly judge for this. You can read this from Cory Gaines about whether or not CPR is meeting the standard of covering ALL sides equally.

DENVER CITY WORKERS NOT HAPPY ABOUT MERIT Or at least are not happy with it being used to decide who gets laid off after the Mayor spent gobs and gobs of money on homelessness and housing illegal immigrants. Now the Human Resources Department, which is an "independent" entity overseen by a board of mayoral appointees says they will use "merit" to determine who is laid off instead of seniority. If you want to know why unions are not my favorite, check this line out:

The merit-based system lacks objectivity and allows for favoritism and bias, others said.

And laying people off based solely on seniority means some really lousy government workers will remain while other more productive junior workers will get laid off. This should be interesting to watch.

TACO TRUMP SEEMS PRETTY STUPID NOW And Chuck Schumer made this fun video calling out Trump for NOT taking action on Iran. Before he did, that is.

It seems "TACO Trump" which means "Trump Always Chickens Out" by the way, decided to work the ultimate side deal that didn't involve Iran. After the strike, Schumer had to come out and criticize Trump for sidestepping Congress, a move I think is directly tied to the Democrat inability to not leak every single plan Trump has, but he WON'T say whether or not he supports the strike itself. This man is a coward and a huckster of massive proportions who has no spine.

GOOD GUYS WITH A CAR AND A GUN PREVENT MASS SHOOTING This is the story of who a man who was headed into a church full of children with guns to do harm didn't get the chance to because a parishioner hit him with their car before two armed security guards took the guy out. Watch this.

Read the rest of the story here. The gunman did not survive.

FLORIDA VS NEW YORK AND IT ISN'T EVEN CLOSE when it comes to government spending. I am including this on today's blog because Colorado has adopted many of the same policies that have lead to insane spending on Medicaid in New York. This column compares government spending between Florida and New York. And since we know that government spending must be funded by money taken away from taxpayers by force, the result is higher taxes in New York and a bigger burden on the private economy. I asked Grok (AI) to compare the tax burden on citizens in New York and Florida and this is the summary:

New York: New York consistently ranks as having the highest or second-highest overall tax burden in the U.S., with studies estimating it at 12.97% to 14.8% of residents’ income. This includes state and local taxes (income, property, sales, and excise). Per capita tax collections in 2021 were $9,866, and the state’s budget is significantly larger ($235–$321 billion) relative to its population of 19.87 million.
Florida: Florida ranks among the lowest, with an overall tax burden of approximately 6.56% to 7% of income. Per capita tax collections in 2021 were $3,984, and the state budget is smaller ($115–$125 billion) for a population of 23.3 million. The absence of income tax and lower property taxes drive this difference.

But we keep trying to be like California and New York.

GOP MEMBERS ARE ASKING COLORADO TO KICK ILLEGALS OFF MEDICAID And they are right to do so, as the federal government is going to lower reimbursements for Medicaid for states like ours that violate federal law by giving benefits to those here illegally. That will cost Colorado BIGLY. Read more here.

BUC-EES BUCKS THE LOW PAY TREND This is an interesting story about how Buc-ees, the Disney of gas stations, pays it workers really well even when it doesn't have to. What do they get for it? Often the best workers in an otherwise low paid area. Read more here. Pay in Colorado starts at $20 an hour for bathroom attendants. Oh, and they get three weeks of paid vacation and can pay into a 401k.

IRAN IS SALTY ABOUT THE ATTACK And they've got a lot of nerve to invoke the UN after they have crapped all over the UN's inspectors for all these years. Cry me a river. Watch below or click here.

THE SNACK WRAP IS BACK And you better buy it so it doesn't leave McDonalds again. This was on their X account from the social media manager:

GIANT WEDDINGS ARE DUMB And this woman says it perfectly. Watch below or click here.

AN OVERREACTION IN HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS This celebration was dumb at a high school track meet, but NOT unprecedented. A warning should suffice but never let it be said that the adults running kid's sports are rational.

A DETRANISTIONER SOUNDS THE ALARM I'm very happy that these people are speaking out.

I TRIED SO HARD TO GET Q TO DO THIS And she rolled her eyes SO HARD. Watch below or click here.

WHY PEOPLE HATE ISRAEL EXPLAINED This is the best explanation I've ever seen. I love this so much.
