Former NBA MVP and two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant said he and the Phoenix Suns both got what they wanted in his trade to the Houston Rockets.
"I just felt like, yeah, they wanted me to go so it was just like, I'm glad we both, they got what they wanted and I got what I wanted so we can move on and good luck to them going forward and I'll always remember my time there but we're on to something else," Durant said during his first interview since the trade with FanDuel TV's Kay Adams at Fanatics Fest in New York on Sunday (June 22).

ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Suns traded Durant, 36, to the Rockets "for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round picks." The 15-time All-Star was reported to prefer the Rockets, Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs as preferred trade destinations prior to the move being made on Sunday. The former NBA MVP has one year remaining on his contract and is eligible to sign a two-year extension next month.
Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 62 games for the Suns during the 2024-25 NBA regular season and 26.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists in four playoff games, having been selected as an All-Star for the 15th time in his career. The 36-year-old will join his fifth NBA franchise and third since 2023.
The Rockets finished first in the Southwest Division and second in the Western Conference with a 52-30 regular season record before being upset by the Golden State Warriors in the first-round of the playoffs.
