A Wildfire Forecast That Should Get Your Attention

June 25, 2025

Have you noticed?  The summer officially began only a few days ago but we’ve already had several brush fires around the county.

The latest in Clairemont in Tecolote Canyon, another near Poway, and two in the Lakeside area one more than a thousand acres.

Fortunately, firefighters on the ground and aircraft in the sky kept them from damaging homes.

But as we told you earlier this week, a forecast from the meteorologists at San Diego Gas and Electric was a reminder that more brush fires are ahead.

As the vice president of wildfire and climate science at SDG&E put it,  “We’ve only had about 50% of the normal rainfall, and temperatures are expected to be warm as we get into this summer.”

We all know that while wildfires happen all year long but warmer weather and Santa Ana winds in late summer and early Fall always increase the risks.

So if you live in an area anywhere near where wildfires can occur, put on your to do list what firefighters and emergency officials tell you to do.  Cut away and get rid of vegetation near your home. And avoid doing anything that can even accidentally spark a fire.

And also keep your eyes open and report any homeless encampments where some of these fires can sometimes start.

If everyone does that, it will probably be a much nicer and safer summer and fall.
