The man who allegedly intended to shoot OMB Peezy has been arrested.
According to a report WRAL published on Monday, June 23, Ja’Quan Jahmer Whitehurst was arrested and charged with six counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and four counts of shooting a weapon into occupied property. Police allege Whitehurst fired more than 20 shots in the parking lot outside of StarBar in Raleigh, N.C., just before 4 a.m. following OMB Peezy's show. Authorities believe Peezy was the target since some of the bullets hit the rapper's van. Fortunately, no one was injured in the shooting.
The shooting brought police to the venue for the 17th time in the past year. After receiving 93 calls in total during that time, the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division launched an investigation and ultimately suspended the venue's liquor license. It's the second time the venue has lost its ability to serve alcohol. A judge has set Whitehurst's bond at $1 million.
Despite the traumatic shooting, OMB Peezy has been busier than ever this year. He kicked off 2025 by dropping his solo album Drifting Away. The 18-track project features collaborations with GloRilla, Boosie Badazz, Skilla Baby, Mozzy, Montana 700 and Yungeen Ace. Five months later, he and FblManny delivered 13 songs together for their joint album OverKrash.
