6/27/25 Blog: Summer Movies and Blacklists With Christian Toto

June 27, 2025

IT'S AN ASK ME ANYTHING KIND OF DAY So get your idiotic question ready!

CHRISTIAN TOTO ON TO TALK HOLLYWOOD As he does at his website and podcast called Hollywood In Toto (find them here). Christian has been writing a lot lately about what it's like to "come out" as a Trump voter or conservative in Hollywood and it's not pretty. It actually makes me like the folks who have done so even more, because it's a real act of bravery. Read a story from Newsbusters here, and from early January about stars who support Israel. He joins me to talk about this and summer movies at 1.

MAYOR MIKE TICKS OFF A BIG PART OF HIS BASE Along with Governor Jared Polis these Democrats are ticking off Big Labor. First Jared Polis blocked their insane power grab with a veto of a lousy labor bill, and now Mayor Mike Johnston is supporting changes to labor rules so the city can lay off workers using merit instead of seniority. Why does this matter to the unions? Because they support the weakest workers first, and seniority means higher pay which means higher union dues. At this rate I'm not sure how Mayor Mike gets re elected and I hope a rational Democrat runs against him in the primary.

THE SUPREME COURT IS GONNA DECIDE SOME BIG STUFF TODAY And I'm sure some of it is going to come out during the show so here's what you can expect today:

Trump v. CASA
The Court will consider whether activist judges can block federal policies nationwide, in a case stemming from Trump-era efforts to end birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants. UPDATE: This just came out and Trump won, though it was about the nationwide injunctions, not the merits.
Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton
Texas passed a law to protect children from online pornography by requiring age verification. The adult industry is fighting it, and the Court will decide if the law should face strict scrutiny or a more reasonable review standard.
FCC v. Consumers’ Research
A watchdog group is challenging a federal internet subsidy program, arguing that Congress unconstitutionally handed its lawmaking power to an unelected FCC-run nonprofit. The case could rein in bureaucratic overreach.
Mahmoud v. Taylor
Muslim, Catholic, and Orthodox Christian parents are suing to protect their religious rights, arguing that public schools shouldn’t force their kids to learn from LGBTQ-themed materials without parental consent.

These are all really, really important so pay attention!

I HEARD A TRASHY BIT OF GOSSIP But I heard it from a reliable source. I've been told that Douglas County Commissioner told multiple people that once he brought Home Rule forth you could just call him "King George". How did that work out for you, buddy?

YES, THE US STRIKES IN IRAN WERE EFFECTIVE I got a text message from my nephew in Israel that said:

Can you explain what the problem is with Americans doubting the Fordou strikes results. What's everyone's problem?

To which I responded that the media hates Trump SO MUCH that they can't allow him to have a victory even when he gets one. The Jerusalem Post, which is not rah-rah war by any stretch, covers the recent report on the strikes on Iran here. This is important to note:

The next twelve days of strikes had two main goals: first, to target and destroy Iran's various nuclear enrichment and development sites and Iran's missile production and launch sites. Defrin described the US's strikes on Fordow and Israel's strikes on Natanz as having prevented Iran from developing a nuclear weapon at this time. The IAF also targeted thousands of centrifuge production sites as well as other facilities used to produce components needed to produce a nuclear bomb. The assassination of 11 Iranian nuclear scientists will also have set back the regime's efforts to produce a nuclear weapon.
The second major focus of the strikes was Iranian missile production and launch sites. The IDF struck over 30 facilities relating to missile production throughout Iran. The strikes set back missile production, particularly of long-range missiles, through the targeting of navigation systems factories. The elimination of over 30 senior Iranian military commanders helped to prevent Iran from deadlier retaliation. Over 50% of launchers and hundreds of ballistic missiles were destroyed during the strikes. Over 80% of aerial defense arrays were destroyed in the strikes. Over 530 missiles and 1,100 drones were launched at Israel, with 99% of the drones being intercepted. Defrin warned that despite the success of the operation in preventing Iran's existential threat to Israel, the regime would still attempt to destroy Israel.

Iran is greatly disrupted right now. Trump deserves a lot of credit though the Israeli Air Force deserves more. And not ONE civilian site was targeted. NOT ONE.

THE US AND CHINA HAVE A TRADE DEAL Though more details need to be hammered out when it comes to rare earth minerals it seems the punitive measures going in both directions are over...for now. Read more here and I'll try to get someone on to discuss this at length. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick says ten more deals are going to be finalized in the next ten days and they expect the rest of the nations they are negotiating with to fall in line accordingly after that. And in six months, Trump has reshaped world trade. China has also agreed to tighten controls on two main components of fentanyl, which has been very important to President Trump.

WE HAVE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO THANK FOR DISMANTLING THE SURVEILLANCE STATE And as one who isn't particularly happy about cameras watching my every move part of me rejoices. But the other part of me isn't going to let the Denver City Council off the hook. They didn't give a rat's ass about CREATING a surveillance state by putting up the cameras in the FIRST PLACE and I know they are lying now when they say not renewing the contract is about privacy. It's about the fear that the feds could use those cameras to arrest illegal immigrants. Read more here, but if Colorado keeps this up the feds are going to make life very miserable here.

A NEW WAY TO SPOT THE TRANSPLANTS We've got a new area code coming to Colorado soon. Find out what areas are going to be given the new 748 area code. I just never changed my Florida cell phone number so you'll always know I'm not from around here.

DUN-DUN-DUN-DUH DUN-DUN-DUN-DUH We all know the theme to Mission: Impossible and now the composer has died at 93. RIP sir, and thanks for the action music kids everywhere sing to themselves while having an adventure.

ANOTHER SCHOOL DISTRICT SAYS NO TO BOYS IN GIRL'S SPORTS The Montezuma-Cortez School District joined a growing number of sensible districts in banning boys from girl's sports. The also signed on to a lawsuit proactively challenging the state over their ability to enact such policies. Colorado Spring D-11 and the Falcon district have already done this and I'm hoping that more districts step up to protect girls in this state.

WHEN PUBLIC COMMENT IS ABUSED I have to give it to the supporters of Kilwyn Lewis, the man shot and killed by police when they were trying to arrest him for attempted murder. They are persistent. But now that they have filed suit, after the DA and a grand jury declined to indict the officer involved, they need to stop disrupting City Council meetings. Mayor Mike Coffman has had enough of their endless grandstanding. If I were Aurora I'd seek a gag order from the judge in the case and let it all play out in court. I think Coffman is right when he say the leader of the protest is trying to be so annoying that they write a settlement check. I'm guessing the more they show up, the less likely that already unlikely scenario is.

I LOVE AN AMERICAN DREAM STORY And Seth Boster has written about an amazing one here on Sherpa Chai in Boulder.

DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE GUNFIGHT AT THE GAZA HOSPITAL? No? Probably because it happened because Hamas killed a young boy who happened to be a member of a prominent Palestinian clan and they decided to fight back and followed Hamas BACK TO THEIR HEADQUARTERS IN THE HOSPITAL. Read this:

Anti-Hamas media outlets in Gaza report a different version of events, however, saying that members of Hamas’s “Sahm Unit — a unit tasked with enforcing order and pursuing those accused of theft or collaboration with Israel — killed a member of the Barbakh family and then fled to Nasser Hospital.
According to these reports, armed members of the Barbakh clan pursued them, resulting in the confrontation. The reports further claim that Hamas forces used ambulances and fired toward homes belonging to the Barbakh family members.

The hospital in question is the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, which the UN says MUST be protected from Israeli aggression. I wonder why.
