Freddie Prinze Jr. captured hearts in She's All That, but there was a time he thought he would be "fired" from the iconic role.
The 49-year-old actor recently spoke to People about his time filming the beloved 1999 teen rom-com, which saw his character make a bet with friends to woo a "dorky" girl and make her prom queen. Prinze starred opposite Rachael Leigh Cook as well as actors like Matthew Lillard, Kieran Culkin, Anna Paquin and Paul Walker.
Even after having noted roles in films like I Know What You Did Last Summer and The House of Yes, Prinze was still nervous going into the film.
"It was one of the best experiences. I was nervous as hell that I was going to get fired every day, but other than that anxiety, it was literally the best experience," he said. "I felt like everyone was so much better than me, and I didn't have a lot of acting experience. I didn't go to acting school. I was really learning on the job, so I was really nervous going to work every day that that was going to be the day, and they were going to be like, 'Yeah, we're going to let you go.'"
Fortunately for the Scooby-Doo star, after a month of filming full of "pain and anxiety," he started "feeling myself a little bit more" and becoming more comfortable. He also credited Cook for being someone he could lean on, a relationship that has lasted even nearly 30 years since the film's release.
"We're still super close friends to this day. I love her to death. She's like a sister to me," he said. "She was so welcoming to me from day one."
He continued, "She had more experience than I did, and I had to really lean on her a lot during that movie. I had hardly any experience, and she had been doing it since she was younger at a high level. So I really relied on her and leaned on her and trusted her, and she was super good to me."
