7/1/25 Blog: The Big Not So Beautiful Bill Gets A Vote Today

July 1, 2025

WILL THE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL PASS? No one seems to know as of this morning, but that may change by the time I start the show. Have they gutted the cost saving measures enough for Lisa Murkowski? Who knows. You can read more here but I'm sure there will be updates soon.

HOW ABOUT A LITTLE VETERAN ART? Jefferson County Public Library has partnered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars to showcase artwork by their members and photography from the Denver Vet Center. Throughout the month of July, several JCPL locations will host the work of different local artists. There will be a one-hour reception at each location for the artists showing there, providing the public with an opportunity to listen to their stories and discover how artistic expression helps triumph over adversity. I'm talking with Sean Eads, JeffCo Public Library Programming Coordinator, today at 2:30 about it. Find out more here.

OH LOOK, WOLF REINTRODUCTION COST WAY MORE THAN WE WERE TOLD But has there EVER been a government program that came on On Budget? Or even close? Now we know that re introducing wolves to Colorado (even though we have evidence that wolves were already here, mind you) cost $2.1 million more than it was supposed to. Why? Because it cost 3 MILLION to pack up the wolves from where they were to move them here. The vaunted Blue Book said it would cost $800,000. Why didn't CPW put the brakes on BEFORE they spend all that money? Oh, and they've killed a ton of livestock so there's that. This was a dumb idea and an even dumber execution.

THE GLOBALIZED INTIFADA CLAIMS THE LIFE OF A BOULDER WOMAN She was one of the people hurt when an Egyptian national who overstayed his visa during the Biden Administration threw Molotov cocktails at a group of people marching to remind people that hostages are still being held by Hamas. Now Karen Diamond has succumbed to her injuries at the age of 82. She sounds like a wonderful woman, as you can read here. I hope the new Mayor or New York really believes what he said here.

Or does he believe that this is the way of the future?

I normally wouldn't politicize a post on a victim of a horrible attack, but the growth of anti-Semitism has let this man become the likely next Mayor of New York and he can't condemn globalizing the intifada even as slogan. This is all connected and Colorado democrats would do well to strongly come out against it, but instead, they are supporting this man. Lest you think he's not supporting the phrase, which is widely believed to show support for violent uprising against Jews because of its use by Palestinians for just that, he doubled down on NOT condemning it in its current usage in an interview with The Bulwark. Read this bit:

While speaking on “The Bulwark” Tuesday, Mamdani defended the phrase “globalize the intifada,” which has been used by pro-Palestinian protesters and seen by many as a call for violence against Jews, telling the hosts that the phrase was often misunderstood.
“I think what’s difficult also is that the very word has been used by the Holocaust Museum when translating the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising into Arabic, because it’s a word that means struggle,” said Mamdani, who has a long record of pro-Palestinian activism. “And as a Muslim man who grew up post-9/11, I’m all too familiar in the way in which Arabic words can be twisted, can be distorted, can be used to justify any kind of meaning.”
In a post on X Wednesday, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum decried the comparison of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, a major Jewish uprising against the Nazis in 1943, with the phrase, though it did not explicitly mention Mamdani.
“Exploiting the Museum and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising to sanitize ‘globalize the intifada’ is outrageous and especially offensive to survivors,” the post read. “Since 1987 Jews have been attacked and murdered under its banner. All leaders must condemn its use and the abuse of history.”

He is an anti-Semite and the Democrat party supporting him should tell every Jew exactly where they stand with that party. Just saying. I hope Mrs. Diamond's family finds joy in her memory.

POLIS PONIES UP MONEY FOR SECURITY AT HOUSES OF WORSHIP And this is a direct response to these attacks. I hate that this is needed but for once I'm glad there is money for it. It's a grant program and can go to any religion although let's be real, no one is attacking other faiths in Colorado right now.

FIRST MACHETES, NOW CHAINS The machete guy was on Cherry Creek Trail and now Chain Swinging Guy is in Boulder, but I bet they both share the same characteristics: mentally ill and/or addicted to something. Read more here about the dude hurting people in Boulder.

When officers searched the man, they found a small amount a cash, as well as methamphetamine and a glass pipe.

Of course they did. I bet if he just had a house this would have never happened. (Sarcasm for those new here)

IT JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT HARDER TO CARRY CONCEALED IN COLORADO As the idiotic new requirements that will stop exactly ZERO crimes take hold. Read what fresh hell you need to jump through to get a license here. There are a whole bunch of new laws that kick in today, here is a list of some of them.

WHAT OTHER CRAP DID THE LEGISLATURE INFLICT ON US? The Independence Institute does a great wrap up here.

DOES COLORADO'S ASSISTED SUICIDE LAW KILL DISABLED PEOPLE? That's sort of what is being alleged in a new lawsuit filed against the law. Read this part:

“Some people get suicide prevention, other people get suicide help,” Vallière said. “The people who get suicide help are all people with disabilities.”
Disability activist Dawn Russell with ADAPT Denver said the law sends a dangerous message:
“If you don’t have a disability, you get suicide prevention. If you do — they treat you like your life isn’t worth living.”

Plaintiffs say a 28 year old woman with anorexia who was given a lethal dose but then survived illustrates their point. The lawsuit is ongoing.

DEMOCRATS ARE BRINGING BACK TAX THE RICH On this year's ballot because they don't know how to do anything else than overspend and then look to take someone else's money to pay for it. Read a column about it here.

DEMS ARE ALSO ONLY PROUD WHEN THEY ARE IN CHARGE This new poll irritates the crap out of me. When you ask Republicans if they are proud to be an American, they simply are for the most part. They don't necessarily pin their pride on who is charge. Not so for Democrats, who are far more likely to NOT be proud to be an American when someone they don't like is in charge. It's so fickle and rotten. From Gallup:

Republicans have never dipped below 80% even when the addled Joe Biden was in charge probably because they know that pride on being an American is much deeper than whether or not your political party won an election. This is just so gross to me. The worst part is when you look at younger generations things are truly, truly awful. It's almost like when you only teach them the Howard Zinn version of America they learn to hate it or something. Check these numbers out:

This is a HUGE problem if we are put in a position where we need these kids to fight for this country. It's a huge problem when we talk about protecting the American way of life. We have to fix this.

WILL TRUMP OFFER PROTECTIONS FOR ILLEGAL FARMWORKERS? The ICE raids have had an impact on who shows up for work picking fruits and vegetables and it's not good. A vast majority of farmworkers are illegally here because Congress has been unable to do ANYTHING to create a legal way for them to do this. Now fruits and vegetables are in danger of going unpicked and that would be devastating not just for the farmers but for our food supply. Trump has made statements indicating he's not only aware of the problem but that he may do something about it. I'm not sure how that might work but we'll see. Again, blame Congress for this failure.

TRUMP WELCOMES SYRIA INTO THE FOLD As a new government takes hold in Syria President Trump issued an order lifting Syrian sanctions. I think he is going to try to bring Syria into the Abraham Accords, which would be EPIC, as Israel shares a border with Syria and this would be outstanding. Allowing Syria to tap into the world's economy is the first step. He didn't lift every sanction though:

Monday’s actions do not rescind sanctions imposed on ousted former President Bashar Assad, his top aides, family members and officials who had been determined to have committed human rights abuses or been involved in drug trafficking or part of Syria’s chemical weapons program.
It also leaves intact a major set of sanctions passed by Congress targeting anyone doing business with or offering support to Syria’s military, intelligence or other suspect institutions. While the Trump administration has passed temporary waivers on those sanctions, known as the Caesar Act, they can only be permanently repealed by law.

I think this is the right move.

THE IRANIANS SAY THEY HAVE TRUMP'S EMAILS And the Iranian hacker group says they are for sale to the highest bidder. Who knows what's in these emails but if there anything really damning you know they'd already be out as a teaser. Just saying.

IS IT TIME TO BAN LEFT TURNS? When I first saw this I was prepared to hate it but after reading it they may have a case. Especially when you consider that 61% of intersection accidents are left turn issues. Don't hate it until you read it.

CAPE CORAL IS GROUND ZERO AGAIN In a category they don't want, which is a housing crisis created not by cheap and easy loans, but this time by a mass exodus to Florida during Covid and a series of hurricanes that drove people out and home insurance premiums through the roof. If you're looking for a home in Florida, there are deals to be had right now in Cape Coral. The reason I say "again" in that headline is that during the housing crisis of 2008 the Cape Coral-Naples market lead the country in foreclosures for almost TWO YEARS. Why? Because it's hot as hell down there in the summer for one.

WHY CONSERVATIVE MEDIA STRUGGLES FOR PROFITABILITY There used to be an organization called the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) and its stated purpose was to help advertisers steer away from content that might offend their potential customers. Except oddly, they ONLY seemed to steer business away from conservative content. It was so egregious that when they got called out, they just disbanded. But the damage continues. Read this for more.

ELON MUSK IS READY TO START A NEW PARTY And I'm with him! But I already know that everyone who joins because they are concerned about budget deficits and spending the country into oblivion will want everyone ELSE's government money cut. Because that's how we roll now.

Are you ready for a new party? I kind of am.

RIP BEEZLER Beezler was the oldest Asiatic bear in human care at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. She was put down yesterday at the ripe old age of 32 years old. They don't live that long in the wild, fyi.

FORD DOES THE RIGHT THING TO KEEP EMPLOYEES And expect more big companies to tout how they made pay better and benefits better to get people to want to work there. They've realized the next generation simply won't settle for less and now they want a medal for doing the right thing. Whatever.

THE STATE TRIES TO SHIFT BLAME FOR THEIR MISTAKE THAT WILL COST RURAL HOSPITALS UC Health just won a lawsuit against the State and because of that, they are owed a pile of money. Rather than trying to find some other way to pay it, the state is telling rural hospitals they have to foot the bill. This could be a very big deal and you should read it here.

HOW TO DESTROY A LEGENDARY CAR COMPANY IN A FEW EASY STEPS Jaguar is a vibe. The cars have always been gorgeous but temperamental, with a reputation for being in the shop more than being on the road, and yet, they were still a status symbol to own. That is over now, after the most disastrous rebrand since New Coke. Their woke, androgynous advertising campaign, along with doing away with what MADE Jaguar Jaguar has destroyed the brand and I'm not sure they can recover. Read more here and let's mourn the loss of the company that created some of the most beautiful cars in history together.
