X, formerly known as Twitter, was reported to be experiencing widespread outages Wednesday (July 2) morning.

The outages were initially reported at around 9:30 a.m. ET, according to the website DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com.

"Yes, we are detecting problems with X (Twitter) that began 21 minutes ago," the website stated.

The outage-tracking website DownDetector.com also showed a spike of more than 15,000 outages reported as of 9:54 a.m. ET.

"User reports indicate problems at X (Twitter)," the website stated.

X had previously experienced widespread outages on March 10, with thousands of users reporting issues, according to Downdetector. The prior outages were initially reported at around 5:30 a.m. ET and peaked with about 57% of users unable to access their mobile app and 32% unable to use the website.

Outages were reported to have decreased and spiked multiple times, showing an ongoing instability, with many users claimed to have had access restored closer to 11:00 a.m. ET, while incident reports for others surged to nearly 14,000 within minutes. X, then-Twitter, was purchased by Elon Musk as part of a $44 million buyout in April 2022, with his official takeover occurring in October 2022.

The social media platform experienced several outages during the takeover, as well as in 2023 when the billionaire scaled down the platform's staff, hough reports have declined overall in recent years.
