The Atlanta police officer who shot and killed Rayshard Brooks is under investigation again after he allegedly assaulted a bar worker.

According to WSB, Officer Garrett Rolfe, who evaded charges in Brooks' 2020 fatal police shooting, is currently on paid leave following his involvement in a fight at Bar 10 in midtown Atlanta on Sunday (June 29).

Witnesses said the altercation unfolded after Rolfe's friend accused a bartender of overcharging for drinks. An argument ensued, and a bar worker, identified as Raefeal "Ray" Penrice, escorted Rolfe and his friend outside. According to several witnesses, the officer attacked Penrice, throwing the first four punches.

Police arrested Penrice despite witness testimony that Rolfe started the fight.

“He’s such a nice guy – he’s always made everyone feel very safe and I think its absolutely heinous that after several eyewitnesses told the arresting officers that it was in fact the off-duty police officer who threw the first punch, yet he was still the one taken to jail,” a witness told WSB.

Rolfe's attorney claims he was the victim. The bar's owners are fighting to clear their employee's name and get him out of jail.

“This man was just doing his job. He watches the door and makes everyone feel safe, and I just can’t believe this has unfolded the way it has – and it’s scary – that law enforcement can do this,” a witness said.

The incident comes after Rolfe shot and killed Brooks during a confrontation outside an Atlanta Wendy’s on June 12, 2020. In 2022, charges were dropped against Rolfe and Officer Devin Brosnan Brooks' death.
