San Diego's July 4th Night to Remember
July 4, 2025
Every July 4th since 2012, it has gone viral. And it remains one of the most viewed YouTube videos.
It is the 30-second video of the infamous San Diego Big Bay Boom “blunder” when a malfunction at an elaborately choreographed 17-minute show set off all the fireworks at the same time in just a half-minute.
According to the Port of San Diego Big Bay Boom fireworks website, videos of that brief but ironically pretty spectacular show in its own way had been viewed close to four million times and seven of the 30 most viewed videos in the U.S. were of the fireworks show like none other.
And at that time, on July 4th 2012, no one saw it coming.
The pyrotechnics company that produced the show that year was a new one at the time and not the one who has done it the way it is supposed to happen for years and still does now.
So don’t expect it to happen again. But that night 13 years ago tonight will remain in our memories for years to come.
