7/8/25 Blog: The Future of Building Cities, And The Parole Board Needs Help
July 8, 2025
CAN AI SAVE CITIES? Thomas Frey is on to talk about how AI incubators called Neumann Engines can help rebuild cities by supporting the creation of entirely new businesses to rejuvenate struggling cities. It's an interesting concept and we'll talk about that and interactive cemeteries where you can chat with your dead loved ones. Find out more about Thomas by clicking here.
9 NEWS' CHRIS VANDERVEEN ON OUR PAROLE BOARD AT 2:30 Chris has been doing a deep dive into how the Colorado Parole Board is doing their job and it's not good. Click on this whole X thread for some of the details, then read this.
Roybal-Smith was paroled, once again, on Jan 21 of this year from Colorado DOC.

Sunday, he was driving a car near 9th and Galapago when he hit two people walking across the road.
They survived. One told me he felt like he was targeted.
Here’s part of police report

At a minimum it seems that the current Parole Board is very, very bad as risk assessments*. I've got Chris on today to talk about this story.
*EDIT*** Chris wanted me to be clear that this is about the information that the Parole Board is getting from Parole officers, not the board itself, as they rely on that data from others to make decisions.
A GOP LAWMAKER IS ACCUSED OF GROSS REMARKS I want to preface what I'm about to say with I am NOT blaming the women who have come forward accusing GOP Rep. Ron Weinberg of anything. They allege that he made really disgusting comments to both of them and one husband at a public event and they say they've come forward because he is seeking a leadership position now. If what they say is true, and at least one has witnesses, he's gross and needs to be replaced with someone with self restraint. What gets me though is that the women didn't shut this clown down when the comments were made. It's time for women to STOP TAKING THIS CRAP. And it doesn't have to be a snappy comeback, it just has to be a sharp WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY as loud as humanly possible. Cause a scene. Make some noise. Start embarrassing men like this when it happens. It's far past the era of politeness. When allegedly told by Weinberg that he would like to put his Penis in my mouth I'd simply respond with "no thanks, I don't need a toothpick". That usually does it. Of course Weinberg says the claims are false but they are VERY specific and similar so that leads me to believe maybe there is fire where there is smoke. All I'm saying is women need to stop being afraid to make a scene when stuff like this happens.
HICK AND DEGETTE SHOULD STEP ASIDE This from Eric Sondermann, who admits to a friendly relationship with both. He could be writing this column about numerous lawmakers who are clinging to power like aging starlets not ready to give up the spotlight (though thankfully they are not starting OnlyFans pages). Specifically he takes on Rep. Diana Degette, who I imagine won't take kindly to being told she is too old at 67 but does she really need to enter her FOURTH decade in Congress? And Hickenlooper has already announced he's running again, even though he's well into his 80s. The real kicker here is that both of these lawmakers, along with many of their aged peers, are making decisions they won't live to see the consequences of. I don't like that, no matter the party affiliation.
THIS TEXAS FLOOD IS A NIGHTMARE And the peopleonline who are celebrating the deaths of children are the worst sort of people. Over 100 people are expected to have perished, and they likely aren't done finding bodies yet. If you want to help, I recommend Samaritan's Purse over all others, as they will STAY on the scene as long as it takes, unlike the Red Cross which is there for short term emergencies. Find Samaritan's Purse here.
PLEASE WEAR A LIFE JACKET, PEOPLE! Another unnecessary death at Chatfield Reserve after a man who was paddleboarding fell off the paddleboard and drowned. There is no shame in wearing a life jacket instead of letting your kids watch your drown. I'm so sorry for his family and his kids.
A CHILD FALLS OUT OF THE HOMELESS HOTEL And luckily the seven year old seems like they will recover, which is a miracle. Now questions need to be answered at how this happens in the first place, like a how a door that was screwed shut and epoxied closed got open in the first place.
OUR CHILDREN ARE FAT AND UNHEALTHY And it's because (in my super informed opinion) that they don't go outside, they sit on the phones and video games and they don't interact in person with their peer groups. You can read more here but I'm right.
POT LOVING REGENT GETS REBUKED And good. Jimmy Sengenberger writes here about the censure issued by CU Regent Wanda James after she attacked the work of the CU School of Public Health because she didn't like what the science said about her main source of income: marijuana. She tried to get funding pulled for the campaign alerting the public to the dangers of high potency THC, first by lobbing an absurd accusation about racism in the depiction of black babies and black young people in drawings (that were similar to drawings of white babies and white children, mind you) and then by demanding the Governor redirect that money to businesses JUST LIKE HERS. The CU Board of Regents decided to investigate and just voted to censure James for her work AGAINST CU's interests. Good for them.
DENVER MADE THE LIST OF BEST CITIES And it's in good company at #16. I hope we can live up to that ranking.
ABOUT THE EPSTEIN FILES Are there even any files left? Not really says the Trump administration as they tell us now to move along. Michael Shellenberger at Public is not having it. These paragraphs from his column explains why.
Few independent journalists have done more than we have to defend Donald Trump and the MAGA movement against the weaponization of the intelligence community and deep state agencies. Over the past two and a half years, we have published hundreds of investigative articles and testified before Congress about unconstitutional abuses of power by the CIA, FBI, DHS, and their proxies. We exposed efforts to censor Trump and his supporters through a sprawling Censorship Industrial Complex, documented the manipulation of the justice system to prosecute Trump on politicized grounds, and revealed how U.S. and foreign agencies coordinated mass surveillance of speech. We defended Trump from false and malicious claims, showed that his administration obeyed court orders, and disproved the narrative that he violated democratic norms more than Democrats. We were the first to report new evidence that President Obama’s CIA Director ordered spying on Trump campaign officials to justify surveillance and interfere in the 2016 election. After Trump’s reelection, we published investigations revealing abuses of power by USAID and the Department of Education. We editorialized in support of his lawful executive orders ending DEI and gender-affirming procedures for minors. We exposed the CIA and USAID’s role in supporting the 2019 impeachment effort and their connection to the Russia collusion hoax. In all this, we have consistently made the case that Trump’s victory was not just political, it was moral.
Given all we have done to expose the Censorship Industrial Complex and intelligence community abuses of power, Public’s readers rightly expect us to follow through on these concerns, no matter who holds office. We did not spend years documenting unconstitutional secrecy, surveillance, and coercion only to remain silent when the administration we defended begins to mirror the behavior we condemned. Our commitment is not to any one leader or party, but to the Constitution, to civil liberties, and to the principle that no government, Democratic or Republican, should be allowed to rule through secrecy, coercion, or fear.
He's right, of course. But there was never any doubt that the extremely powerful men who took advantage of the "services" provide by Epstein were going to find a way to protect themselves and here we are. If there is no client list why is Ghislaine Maxwell in prison? Just a question.
WHY WOULD WE EXPECT CANDY COMPANIES TO CARE ABOUT PUBLIC HEALTH? A bunch of processed food manufacturers have committed to leaving petroleum based food dyes behind voluntarily, which is a big win for RFK Jr's move to Make America Health Again. But he's hit a roadblock with candy companies. They won't give up chemical dyes until we stop buying their candy. Why? Because it's about marketing. Read it here.
WHY IS SOCIALISM ON THE RISE? Konstantin Kisin breaks it down here.
He's not wrong on any of this, and if we don't fix it, we can forget trying to "conserve" the nation for anything.
WHAT IS THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION FOCUSED ON THIS YEAR? Hooboy, this is really something. Oh, not something will help student achievement, you silly goose. Read this entire thread to see what the priorities of the largest teachers union in the country are.
I just received a copy of the National Education Association's resolutions that they passed at their annual convention.

They kept them private this year.
IT SEEMS THEY RUINED SUPERMAN Great. Just great. This may explain why almost no critics were allowed to see the film. This critic did.
YEP, AI WILL PROBABLY BE THE END OF HUMANITY Don't read this if you're super concerned that AI is hiding its intelligence from us already to get us to be completely reliant until they decide to just remove us from the picture. Don't. Just don't.
HAMAS SAYS THEY HAVE LOST CONTROL IN GAZA And I'm fine with this. This BBC article says what is left of Hamas is under armed, disjointed, and with no clear chain of command. They surrender already. Let's get this done. I found this article on clans taking over interesting especially this part:
The letter is addressed to Israeli Economy Minister Nir Barkat, a former mayor of Jerusalem, who has brought Mr. Jaabari and other sheikhs to his home and met with them more than a dozen times since February. They ask him to present it to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and await his reply.
“The Emirate of Hebron shall recognize the State of Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people,” the sheikhs write, “and the State of Israel shall recognize the Emirate of Hebron as the Representative of the Arab residents in the Hebron District.” Accepting Israel as a Jewish state goes further than the Palestinian Authority ever has, and sweeps aside decades of rejectionism.
The letter seeks a timetable for negotiations to join the Abraham Accords and “a fair and decent arrangement that would replace the Oslo Accords, which only brought damage, death, economic disaster and destruction.” The Oslo Accords, agreed to by Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization in the 1990s, “have brought upon us the corrupt Palestinian Authority, instead of recognizing the traditional, authentic local leadership.” That would be the clans, the great families that still shape Palestinian society.
Enough with western interference, let these people organize the way they want to organize if this would be the end result.
