Details about the viral exchange between former President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump at the late Jimmy Carter's funeral have been revealed.

Trump and Obama appeared to sit side-by-side at Carter's funeral at the Washington National Cathedral in January, smiling as they exchanged conversation before the proceedings began.

Social media users speculated about what the pair was discussing during what appeared to be a friendly exchange despite their checkered history.

In the new book "2024: How Trump Retook the White House and Democrats Lost America," journalists Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager, and Isaac Arnsdorf revealed that Trump had invited Obama to play golf with him during their conversation, per PEOPLE.

"He sat next to Barack Obama and invited him to play golf, enticing him with descriptions of Trump’s courses around the world," the book reads.

He added, "We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don't know, we just got along."

The reported invite comes after Trump alleged for years that Obama, a Hawaii native, wasn't born in the U.S. In her memoir "Becoming," former First Lady Michelle Obama said Trump's birther conspiracy campaign was "crazy and mean-spirited," adding that "its underlying bigotry and xenophobia [were] hardly concealed." Michelle declined to attend Carter's funeral with the former president in January.
