Linda Yaccarino has stepped down as CEO of X, Elon Musk's social media platform, after two years in the role. Yaccarino announced her departure in a post on X, expressing gratitude to Musk for the opportunity to lead the company and stating, "The best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with @xai."
"When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App," she wrote.
Musk responded briefly, thanking her for her contributions.
Yaccarino, a former NBCUniversal marketing executive, took over as CEO in June 2023, aiming to revitalize the platform's advertising business. Her tenure faced several challenges, including controversies over antisemitic content and false claims spreading on the platform. These issues led to some brands withdrawing their advertising, prompting Yaccarino to sue an advertising industry group, which subsequently disbanded. Under Yaccarino's leadership, X implemented policies to control the spread of harmful content and introduced brand safety controls for advertisers.
