President Donald Trump reportedly invited former President Barack Obama to play a round of golf at one of his private golf courses during their viral interaction at former President Jimmy Carter's funeral in January, according to a passage from the book 2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America released on Tuesday (July 8).
“He sat next to Barack Obama and invited him to play golf, enticing him with descriptions of Trump’s courses around the world,” the book states via Axios.
Trump previously said he and Obama "probably do" like each other despite having "different philosophies" after a clip of their interaction received attention online, admitting he "didn't realize how friendly" they looked until watching the video himself.

“I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other.’ And we probably do,” Trump told reporters from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida via C-Span2. “We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don’t know. We just got along. But I got along with just about everybody.”

Trump didn't provide details about what he and Obama were discussing during the interaction. Forensic lip reader Jeremy Freeman told the New York Post that the two were aware of cameras and intended to appear cordial, while also acknowledging that the discussion could have been about international agreements.
Trump's successful 2016 presidential campaign was launched after he served as a leading figure in the "birther" movement questioning whether Obama, a native of Hawaii, was secretly born in Kenya, which resulted in the 44th president releasing a long-form version of his Hawaiian birth certificate in 2011. The president also previously accused Obama of ordering feds to "spy" on his campaign amid accusations of ties to Russia following the 2016 election.
Obama has also taken shots at Trump in the past, which included targeting his "weird obsession with crowd sizes" while holding his hands about four inches apart, mocking the 45th president's manhood. Obama also critiqued Trump's lenghty speeches as being "like Fidel Castro -- just on and on" and referenced his "constant attempts to sell you stuff," which included his golden sneakers and branded Bibles.
