Florida Vet Office Worker Arrested After $400K Overpayment Mistake

July 11, 2025

A woman in Wellington, Florida, is in big trouble after spending hundreds of thousands of dollars that weren’t hers. The woman worked as a receptionist at a veterinarian’s office and was accidentally overpaid more than $400,000 over a year.

Instead of reporting the mistake, she admitted to spending over half of the money on personal shopping and sending a large portion to her family in Argentina. Her regular yearly salary was supposed to be around $60,000, but for months, she was getting much more than that in her bank account.

When investigators asked why she didn’t say anything, she reportedly told them she thought the extra money was a monthly bonus. She said she had heard rumors that the receptionist before her used to get big bonuses and assumed that’s what was happening with her.

Unfortunately for her, the vet’s office eventually caught the mistake and called authorities. She was arrested and charged with money laundering, since she knowingly kept and used money she wasn't supposed to have.
