Givēon comes through with his most authentic album thus far.
On Friday, July 11, the California native delivered his sophomore album Beloved via Epic Records. The project consists of 14 soulful tracks inspired by the iconic era of R&B that dominated the 1970s. His lead singles, "Twenties" and "Rather Be," are clear indicators of the vintage direction Givēon took for his follow-up to Give or Take.
"Considering the fact that the music is warm and classic and '70s inspired and soulful, I just wanted to pull from a term that had all of that wrapped up in it, that I used to hear my grandpa call my grandma," Givēon tells iHeartRadio about the album's title.
"The story I want to tell with my sophomore album — it's a couple of things," he explains. "I want to tell the story of where I've been sonically, as an artist and the elevation that I've really worked three years' time to just build on my craft. I want to add to the male perspective of rhythm and blues. There are a lot of point of views from the women of Rhythm & Blues, but I feel like sometimes just seeing love through the male lens can get lost now. So I want to make sure I'm keeping that as raw and authentic as possible. I want people to realize how realistic this album is. This isn't like a love story album where everything is going, how a fairytale would go. It is more realistic than that."
In celebration of his album's release, Givēon debuted the official music video for his latest single "I Can Tell." In the visuals directed by Sahra Zadat, the 30-year-old crooner reflects on the good times he had with his special lady while he takes a train home. The '70s theme is evident throughout the video from her home's interior design to their retro outfits.
