My Weekend: Down on the Farm, a Superman Review, Burgers and more
July 13, 2025
"Well life on the farm is kind of laid back, ain't nothing an old country boy like me can't hack....
Early to rise, early in the sack - thank God Im a country boy..."
Ok- so maybe not quite, but it's a good John Denver song that I was thinking about when I was walking around Butternut Farm in Farmington on Friday night, while people were pickin fruit, drinking hard ciders, eating bbq and listening to tunes!
What a GREAT vibe there was there! They do it twice a year and its awesome. Had a couple kick ass food trucks there, an acoustic and violin duo featuring my buddy Jordan Tyrell Wysocki (who's played BuzzBall many times!), and lots of cool cider growlers people were digging! Our brew crew had a blast, and it was a really good way to start the weekend!
Believe it or not- I slept in on Saturday and we hung around the house and chilled. Valerie had some friends over and it was cool just to relax and rest. We did, however- have plans for Saturday night though!
We saw Superman. Yeah, I saw a super hero movie. What do you want me to say? Valerie wanted to see it, so I went with her because her happiness comes before my disdain for the tired, retreaded super hero movies of today. <haha>>
Here's what I will say: It was ok. Not great - by any standard, but....ok. I didn't fall asleep at all, and when she asked me as we were leaving, I just said "It was good!". And I wasn't lying! It was......"good". Maybe about a 5.5 out of 10, in my opinion.
I mean - the city of Metropolis gets f'n destroyed because Superman gets in fights every two seconds with some other super strong beings from where ever! Skyscrapers collapse, sidewalks get destroyed, roads get torn up and somehow - nobody dies. What a bunch of horseshit! And since Im now getting wound up about it - here it comes (Warning: might be a SPOILER ALERT ahead!) - Remember that time a superhero was somehow suddenly considered a bad guy and the world hated them? Oh yeah, that same tired story is back. And lets be clear - I don't pay to see Superman get his friggin ASS KICKED through an entire movie! The bad guy is Lex Luthor - AGAIN. What the hell is up with THAT? YOU'RE FRIGGIN SUPERMAN - LAUNCH THAT BALD PRICK IN TO SPACE WITHOUT A HELMET SO HIS HEAD EXPLODES! For the love of GOD! Gene Friggin Hackman played that cat 30 years ago - and HE'S STILL ALIVE? And when Superman has his big showdown with him AGAIN- he still DOESN'T JUST KILL HIM???? Get the hell out of here! See? Thats my problem. Same formula for the last 30 years. And NOBODY but Lois knows it's Clark Kent? How DUMD as these people!!! Ugh. That's what drives me nuts! The entire city is destroyed - NO WAY that nobody dies in that mess - and every one acts like is just a normal Thursday! I don't get it. I never will. But......Valerie wanted to see it, so I did. And I kept my opinions to myself, because I didn't want to ruin it for her. We had a good time and thats all that mattered. But the movie was......meh.
On Sunday we took my Dad out to lunch to place he's been wanting to try -
And I have to say - HUGE shout out to Wild Willy's in Rochester. I've been there before but not in a long time, and that place knows how to make a good burger! I got the Willy Burger and it was excellent! Nice work folks! Still crushing it after all these years! I don't know why it's been so long since I've been back, but it won't be that long before you'll see us again!
Sunday - I headed out early to do some fog shooting-
I Love photographing in the fog. It's like a shroud of silence that falls over everything it touches, and the thing you can hear is the chug of boat engine that you can't see, and maybe a few gulls. It hit Portsmouth, New Castle, Kittery Point, and Wells Maine. It was a nice easy start to the morning.
And on Sunday - we went to a friend's (Jolene's Mom) 80th birthday party. We got to re-connect with friends we hadn't seen in 10-20 years, so that was really cool. Especially cool was seeing my old friends from Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick. I did a couple shows there and they were the most warm, and welcoming people I've ever worked with. I love them all to this day.
So that was the weekend- hope you had a good one too

ps. Oh, I almost forgot- one more from Friday night at Butternut Farm!!! haha
