A 15-year-old girl was injured on Monday (July 14) when a pickup truck ran over her legs while she was sunbathing on Oak Island, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. as the truck, a 2020 GMC owned by TI Coastal Services, was conducting survey work for the upcoming 2025-26 Beach Nourishment Project.

The Oak Island Police Department reported that the teenager was evaluated on the scene for possible non-life-threatening injuries and was later taken to Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia for further evaluation. Her identity has not been released, and it is unclear if the driver will face charges.

The survey work began on July 7 and is scheduled to continue through mid-July. The project aims to replenish the beach with sand and involves both land and sea surveying.

Town officials have addressed misinformation circulating online, clarifying that the Oak Island Beach Safety Unit was not involved in the accident. They emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing it to prevent the spread of false claims and distrust in first responders.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and TI Coastal Services has not yet commented publicly.
