7/17/25 Blog: A Possible New GOP VP, Plus Epstein Won't Go Away

A BIT MORE STATE GOP DRAMA Not nearly as bad as what has been, but the newly elected Vice Chair already quit. I'm not getting into that because I don't care why if I'm honest. Now there is a new election coming up and I've got Richard Holtorf on the show to talk about why he thinks he's the right choice to fill the spot. He joins me at 12:30.

WHY WON'T THE EPSTEIN CASE GO AWAY? And I guess the better question is do you even care? I know why I care and for me it's more about powerful people being able to do disgusting things and getting away with it more than anything else, but do you even care? Trump is now calling his own supporters "weaklings" for continuing to care. As long as people like the nutty Laura Loomer are out there banging the drum on this it's not going away. This column talks about how there is a group of podcasters leading the charge to the point it feels like a grift. But do YOU care?

REP. GABE EVANS WANTS STATUS FOR SOME ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS Not citizenship, mind you, but status. I know that to some this feels like amnesty, but we have to have real solutions to the real problems with unskilled labor that we need and the people who have been here for a long time illegally providing it. Now Evans is proposing some fines and legal status WITHOUT a path to citizenship for people who have been here longer than five years. I don't hate this, which I realize isn't going to be popular, but we need to get going on real immigration reform and this feels like a good start. I'm going to reach out to his office to get him on the show.

GROK SHOWS ITS BIAS Y'all, I had SO MUCH FUN with this yesterday. I asked Grok to create an image of Americans using current demographic information and this is what it gave me:

Now these could all be Americans, but look at the ethnic makeup of this picture. It's not what I asked for. So I asked Grok what demographic data it used. It thought for a while and then gave me the data, which showed that 57% of Americans are white. So I asked it again to make a picture based on CURRENT demographic splits and it gave me this:

To which I responded that it seemed to be incapable of giving me an accurate representation of what I'm asking. This is what Grok said to me:

These choices ensured the generated images portrayed a vibrant, multicultural crowd typical of modern America, such as in parks or social gatherings. If you'd like me to regenerate or edit the images with more specific emphases (e.g., focusing on a particular age group or region), let me know!

So then I asked it to give me a picture of TEN American citizens using current demographics as they exist in America and it gave me this:

So when I responded "Okay, you can't do what I'm asking then" Grok responded with this:

This is just one tiny example of how bias makes its way into Large Learning Models. Be aware. And don't ask Grok to be accurate when it can be programmed to be politically correct instead. Just to make sure it wasn't just a yesterday thing, I asked it this morning this question:

WHY I LOVE AURORA MAYOR MIKE COFFMAN There was a State of the Cities event yesterday where a bunch of mayors came and did a panel on how things are going. Both Denver mayor Mike Johnston and Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman were there. When asked about the bad blood between the Mayors (and there is), Johnston tried to blow it off. It didn't work. Check this exchange out:

If a cooling economy isn't troubling enough, an icy relationship between Coffman and Johnston is complicating things further.

Johnston shrugged off the year-long standoff.

"There is no distrust, is no damage. My door is always open," he said.

Coffman vehemently disagreed.

"There is an issue and there is distrust," he said.

Aurora sued Denver saying it violated their mutual aid agreement during the George Floyd protests and then sent gang-affiliated migrants to Aurora.

You can't re establish trust if you won't admit it was broken. Good for Mayor Coffman for keeping it real.

MOTORCYCLE DEATHS ARE UP IN COLORADO And this statistic was sort of shocking to me.

Across Colorado, motorcycle deaths are surging. In 2024, 165 riders died -- the most ever in the state.

According to Colorado State Patrol, in 84% of those deaths, the rider was found to be at fault. Forty-four percent were not wearing a helmet, and nearly half didn't have the necessary motorcycle license to operate.

Lane filtering being made legal has lead to so much lane splitting, which remains illegal in this state (even for you, Rob) and it's not doing what it was supposed to do. I'm not even sure how to address the issue of people not having motorcycle licenses other than to ask how they are getting insurance, although that feels like maybe a dumb question too. Anyone got any suggestions here?

THE RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL IS LIMITING TICKETS SALES AT least online because their recent Pirate Invasion weekend sold out and lead to really long lines and lots of aggravation. They will now limit online tickets sales. You can still walk up and buy a ticket, and that may be your only way to get your annual giant turkey leg.

That being said, this new sexy chatbot is going to make it even MORE unlikely that boys will grow up and enter into relationships with REAL women, who are complicated and messy and don't do whatever you say. Scientists have used mice to observe that the brain seems to effortlessly send blood, which is full of nutrients and oxygen, to the areas of the brain that need it, right when they need it. WHEN PRETENDING TO BE A MINORITY GETS AWFUL STUFF PUBLISHED OMG I LOVE this story so much. From The Free Press:

This poem was originally published, with a very crude title, in the online magazine Jake, under the name b.h. fein (pronouns: “it’s/complicated”). But b.h. fein does not exist. It is one of the many pen names of a straight, white Canadian man, who recently told me he’s spent the last few years inventing minority identities, then publishing terrible poems under these pseudonyms.

He has pretended, he said, to be Dirt Hogg Sauvage Respectfully, author of poems such as “non-b god or: what deity would be a TERF?,” as well as Adele Nwankwo, a “gender-fluid member of the Nigerian diaspora,” who has published dozens of comically bad poems in a wide array of indie literary magazines across the Anglosphere in the past three years, including one about a lesbian WWE-style wrestler that features lines such as:

“You wanna know how I feel after being cheated out of a victory over Pat Patriarchy at Survivor Series? I’m furious. I’m hot. Ooh, I’m so mad I could kiss a woman I don’t even like right now!”

In April, the man behind these identities came clean, writing on Substack that he’d “assumed a series of ‘attractive’ pen names” to “test the limits of the poetry industry and just how much buffoonery it was willing to permit in the present day.” He claimed he’d spent two years tricking editors into thinking that his pronouns or skin color were less “regular” than they actually are; and in that time, he said 47 of his intentionally bad poems had been published in numerous indie literary magazines.
