Freddie Gibbs wanted to do something different with his upcoming collaborative album with The Alchemist.
On Thursday night, July 18, the Gary, Indiana native and the veteran producer hosted a special screening of their short film inspired by their next project, Alfredo 2. In the film directed by Nick Walker, the guys head to Japan to open up their restaurant in Tokyo. During the Q&A hosted by TMZ's Trent Clark, Gibbs said the film represents the trials and tribulations he went through to make the sequel to his and Alc's 2020 LP. He explained that he wanted to provide something extra for the fans who've been excited about the project.
"I wanted to give it all to you full circle," Gibbs said. "It personally took a lot for me to get back to even want to give y'all this album. From a personal standpoint, the visual s**t kind of shows you what a n***a climbed through and been through. I wanted to give y'all something extra. I ain't just wanna just give y'all 10 songs on a Friday. I wanted to give y'all a whole experience."
At the end of the film, Gibbs and Alchemist debuted the first single from the album "1995." The song is set 10 years after the original album's intro "1985." Alfredo 2 has 14 tracks with appearances by Larry June, Anderson .Paak and JID. Look out for the album on July 25.
