At Least 19 People Killed When Air Force Jet Crashed Into School

A tragic accident occurred on Monday (July 21) when a Bangladesh air force training jet crashed into a school in Dhaka, resulting in at least 19 fatalities and 164 injuries. The incident took place at the Milestone School and College in the Uttara neighborhood, near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The aircraft, a Chinese-made F-7 BGI, was on a routine training mission when it experienced a mechanical failure shortly after takeoff. According to ABC News, Flight Lieutenant Md. Taukir Islam, the pilot, attempted to divert the jet away from populated areas but was unable to prevent the crash. Tragically, he died from his injuries en route to the hospital.
The injured have been taken to four different hospitals, and the rescue operation is ongoing. Emergency teams are continuing rescue operations, with concerns that more people may still be trapped in the building. The school, which serves students aged four to 18, had approximately 1,000 students on campus at the time of the crash.
In response to the disaster, Bangladesh's interim government leader, Muhammad Yunus, announced a day of mourning on Tuesday, with flags to be flown at half-mast. An investigation committee has been formed to determine the cause of the crash and ensure assistance for those affected.
The crash has left the nation in deep sorrow, and authorities are urged to handle the situation with utmost importance.
