Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for over 694,000 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs due to a potential fire risk. The recall affects Bronco Sports from 2021 to 2024 and Escapes from 2020 to 2022, all equipped with 1.5-liter engines. According to a recall notice, the issue stems from fuel injectors that may crack and leak, potentially causing a fire if fuel comes into contact with hot engine components.

Ford has been investigating this issue since 2022, with previous attempts to address it through software updates that detect leaks and reduce engine power. However, recent incidents of under-hood fires in eight vehicles, some of which had not received the software update, have prompted the company to initiate a broader recall. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

While Ford works on a permanent solution, owners will receive letters starting August 18, advising them of the recall and offering a free engine control software update. This update aims to detect fuel leaks and disable the high-pressure fuel pump. A second letter will follow once a final remedy is available. Vehicle owners can contact Ford customer service by calling 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 25S76.
