Authorities responded to an incident in Bangor, Maine, where a man had climbed onto a homeowner's roof and refused to come down.
39-year-old Stephen Nason ascended the roof around 4 a.m. and told the homeowners he was trying to retrieve drugs from the chimney. The homeowners contacted the Bangor Police and Fire Department, who arrived on the scene. The fire department attempted to use a basket to reach Nason and bring him down safely. However, Nason reportedly jumped from the roof into the basket, grabbed an ax attached to it, and then jumped back onto the roof, proceeding to chop holes in the residence.
Nason eventually surrendered to police around 11:30 a.m.
He was transported to a local hospital for physical and mental health evaluation and has been charged with aggravated criminal mischief, creating a police standoff, and violating probation.
