The music world has lost a giant.
Ozzy Osbourne, former lead singer of Black Sabbath, heavy metal icon and influential rocker in his own right, passed away Tuesday (July 22) at the age of 76. His death comes just weeks after he took the stage for the final time in a farewell concert with Sabbath, a show that raised an incredible $190+ million for charity.
In a statement to The Sun, his family confirmed he passed away surrounded by his loved ones, including wife Sharon Osbourne daughters Aimee and Kelly and sons Louis and Jack.
"It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning," the statement reads. "He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis."
After news of his death, fans, friends and colleagues flooded social media with messages honoring the Prince of Darkness and his lasting legacy. Bands like Metallica and Pantera and artists like Billie Joe Armstrong and Tom Morello also penned their own heartfelt tributes mourning his loss.
Tony Iommi, Ozzy's bandmate and co-founder of Black Sabbath, shared an emotional message mourning his "dear friend" and the impact of the band, which includes Bill Ward and Geezer Butler, losing their "brother."
"I just can't believe it! My dear dear friend Ozzy has passed away only weeks after our show at Villa Park," he wrote. "It's just such a heartbreaking news that I can't really find the words, there won't ever be another like him. Geezer, Bill and myself have lost our brother. My thoughts go out to Sharon and all the Osbourne family. Rest in peace Oz. Tony."

"Kinda lost for words here... we toured with Ozzy in 81 & he, the band & Sharon were SO supportive. He always had time for a chat, took us under his wing & showed us how & how not to party... & played us the 2nd album months before it came out... pic.twitter.com/jg2u6haJte

If there is an afterlife, may Ozzy be reunited with Randy so they can make the music the angels were destined to hear.
