Comic-Con Invasion Comes at Just the Right Time

July 22, 2025

The doors to Comic-Con 2025 officially open Thursday morning, though Wednesday’s preview night unofficially kicks it off.

The San Diego Mayor takes part in the official opening morning ceremonies as tens of thousands of Comic-Con badge holders prepare to walk through the Convention Center doors into the huge event, which, as you’ve heard on San Diego’s Morning News, could be the biggest and best Comic-Con ever.

And for the city of San Diego and surrounding communities, this is a huge week for tourism and the local economy.

It is estimated that with around 135,000 attendees, who will spend close to $100-mllion dollars this week, the Comic-Con will have an overall economic impact of at least $160 million across the San Diego region.

And it’s an especially good time for Comic-Con because it comes at a time when San Diego’s unemployment is on the rise, and the cost of living is up due to high prices and the city of San Diego’s budget revenue is down while those costs go up.

So the folks who run City Hall and the owners of hotels, shops and restaurants all have smiles on their faces as the big Comic-Con crowd invasion comes to town.
