Tasha Cobbs Leonard and John Legend are taking us to church on their powerful new collaboration, and it's iHeartRadio's latest world premiere.
On Thursday, July 24, the Grammy Award-winning gospel artist and the Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer delivered their brand-new single "Church" via Capitol Records/Motown. On the song produced by Paul C. Rivera and Don Barro, Tasha and John lead the thunderous choir as they seek out the word of God after Sunday service ends.
"God it's just you and me now/Tell me what to do now," Tasha sings. "Teach me how to have church on a Monday."
In an interview, Tasha Cobbs Leonard explained how she made the song with her family members after being inspired by Legend's "It Don't Have To Change." The song from Legend's debut album Get Lifted, which recently turned 20, also features the "Ordinary People" singer's family. Legend shared that he also grew up in the church and got his start in the music industry there.
"I'm so happy we did this song together," John told Tasha. "And I love that your family is a part of it."
Tasha also revealed how she got the idea to get John on the song with her and her family. She explained how she was looking for an artist who could help take "Church" to the next level. Then, a mutual friend of theirs, Jocelyn, brought up John's name and helped make the connection.
"[Jocelyn] was like 'What do you think about John?'" Tasha explained. "And I was like 'Oh my gosh!' What an incredible opportunity that would be just to have a feature, your voice, your sound be a part of this song and she was like 'Let me see what I can do'."
"Church" will appear on Tasha Cobbs Leonard's upcoming album TASHA dropping on July 25. Stream the song exclusively on all iHeartRadio gospel stations now and look out for the music video arriving this Friday.
