What is Still Around After the Pandemic

July 25, 2025

Have you noticed more people this summer getting COVID? A new report says cases of the virus that we’d like to forget is rising this summer. In some states more than others, but nationwide, the report says that overall cases are up.

That’s because, according to experts in this report at Time.com, unlike most respiratory diseases like the common cold and flu, which generally peak during the winter, COVID-19 tends to spike twice and sometimes three times a year: once in the fall and winter, once in spring, and another time, yes, in the summer.

Another reason is that fewer people are getting vaccinated for COVID, even though the CDC continues to recommend annual shots for older people and those who have weakened immune systems. And while saying otherwise healthy adults can decide for themselves, vaccinations are still a good idea….with health officials saying that vaccines are safe and very effective in preventing severe disease, hospitalizations, mortality and long COVID which is still around.

Ultimately, everyone has a choice when it comes to getting vaccinated for COVID, or the flu or for RSV. There are some who do and some who won’t.

But while the pandemic may be behind us, viruses will always be around.
