7/29/25 Blog: Trump's Tariffs Are Working, And Glenn Kessler Is Not

July 29, 2025

WHEN EVEN CNN SAYS IT'S WORKING... President Trump is fundamentally changing trade with the US and the World. It is undeniable after he insane deal he just struck with the EU. Read what one European capitalist has to say about the deal:

I've got my pal David Strom from HotAir.com on today to talk about this column he did on all the winning.

NO MORE PINOCCHIOS FOR GLENN KESSLER I hate it when a mad listener sends me a "fact check" from any of the current "face check" sources. You know why? Because they are ALL hopelessly left wing. Especially Glenn Kessler at the Washington Post. He and his "Pinocchios" just rub me the wrong way because not only is he left wing, he's snarky and condescending. Now we know he's taken a buyout and we won't have to subject ourselves to that anymore. And my friend David Strom wrote this column about that so I'm getting a twofer out of that interview.

A REAL NERD IS ON AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SHOW And his name is Ross Kaminsky. He helped with this nerdy paper on healthcare in Colorado and you should read it. He's on for a few minutes at noonish.

WHY IS DENVER STILL GIVING OUT E-BIKE COUPONS? Real people are going to be laid off and the city of Denver is giving out e-bike coupons to people who can afford e-bikes. You can make $97,000 a year and still qualify. Seems about right. Why tho? WHY? This seems to be one of the many, many areas where Denver could have tightened its budget. Another way they are just fiscally irresponsible. The CHEAPEST bike I found at one of the participating bike shops was $2499. This is so so stupid.

YES, CHEF! GUARD AND GRACE IS HIRING And they are looking for a new Executive Chef. Read more here.

ABOUT THAT 10,000 STEPS THING I've got good news! You only need to hit 7,000 steps a day to get real health benefits! Check this out:

At 7,000 steps, however, the results were dramatic: all-cause mortality went down by 47 per cent, the risk of dementia fell 38 per cent, falls by 28 per cent and cardiovascular disease by 25 per cent. There were also reductions in the risk of depression, type 2 diabetes and cancer.
Even a modest increase in step count to 4,000 reduced all-cause mortality by 36 per cent.

So where did 10,000 steps a day come from? It was a marketing campaign in Japan for a pedometer because the Japanese symbol for 10,000 looks like someone walking. For real.

DENVER WATER HAS A CREATIVE WAY TO TEACH ABOUT LAWN WATERING And I have to give it to them, this is really, really well done.

CDOT TEARS DOWN HISTORY Four buildings with some historical significance have been flattened by CDOT at Burnham Yards and Historic Denver is hella mad. You can read about it here, but I'm sure CDOT will not face any penalties like a private company would and the building are gone now anyway so I'm not sure why this is a story.

DPS LIES ABOUT ATTENDANCE AND ICE RAIDS The Denver Gazette doesn't use those words but after you read this it's pretty clear they lied in their federal lawsuit over changes to the "sensitive spaces" rules for immigration enforcement. Read this part:

On Jan. 21 — the day after the inauguration of President Donald Trump and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policy rollback announcement — attendance dropped significantly across district-run schools, regardless of a campus’ Hispanic composition. But that day also followed the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, raising questions about whether the slide in attendance was related to fears over immigration enforcement or possibly part of a post-holiday attendance lull.
In fact, school officials acknowledged that the holiday the year before saw a similar hit to attendance.
Similarly — two days before the widely reported ICE raid at the Cedar Run Apartments and other locations — attendance on Feb. 3 showed another districtwide decline, according to attendance data obtained through the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA). Curiously, the numbers rebounded on Feb. 5 (the day of the raids) and remained relatively steady in the days that followed.

I like the word "curiously" in there. Heh. Curiously indeed.

JSX IS MOVING TO CENTENNIAL AIRPORT And I've been wanting to try the "almost charter" airline and this makes it SO MUCH easier. I'll have a report asap.

COLORADO WILL COME FOR YOUR GAS POWERED MOWER Because they have already come for some of them. It went into effect on June 1st, and right now it applies to state-owned equipment of 25 horsepower or less, and to federal and local governments, including special districts, using equipment of less than 10 horsepower. But you don't really think they are going to let you keep yours, do you? The Colorado Air Quality Control Commission will be taking up further bans soon. They will be reconsidering Rule 29 on Nov. 19-21 and April 15-16, 2026. Those hearings may include considering expanding the use restriction to commercial operators and neighborhood landscapers doing work for the private sector, as well as consideration of a sales prohibition on gas-powered equipment.  If you have your lawn done by a maintenance company ask them what this would cost them if they had to replace their equipment with electric and what that would mean for YOU.

CU REGENTS WON'T BE BULLIED And you may have heard Jimmy Sengenberger interviewing the Chairwoman and Vice Chairman of the CU Board of Regents last week about the censure of Wanda James, whose cries of racism aren't working this time. Read his column on it here.

A MAN TARGETS THE NFL BECAUSE OF CTE Or at least that's the narrative being developed after four people were killed in New York by a Las Vegas man who said in a suicide note he was suffering from CTE, the disease caused by head trauma that can cause mental issues. From CNN:

Papers found on the gunman’s body indicate he had grievances with the NFL and its handling of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), according to a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation. Evidence of CTE, a brain disease believed to be caused by repeated head injuries, has been found in a striking number of deceased NFL players’ brains donated for study.

The man is dead by his own hand.

AND CNN BECLOWNS ITSELF DURING THE COVERAGE There was a photo released of the man walking into the office building with a long gun in his hand.

How about "race unknown"? This has vibes like the "white Hispanic" George Zimmerman. They really do hate us.

THERE ARE TONS OF JOBS IN THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY And this is a great story about teaching folks to fix airplanes as a career. I bet this school is a whole lot cheaper than college. Just saying.

HOLLYWOOD THINKS WE'LL BUY A FEMALE GLADIATOR And for the record, I will not. But you can watch the trailer for this show here, because I have thoughts.

IS THE MAYOR TARGETING A SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT? I love Do Better Denver (@DoBetterDNVR on X) because they refuse to accept the Mayor's assertions that EVERYTHING IS AWESOME in Denver and do so by publishing videos of the mentally ill addicts and the effect they are having on the city. But the Mayor doesn't seem to love them. Check this out:

Now a reporter from the Denver Post seems to be trying to figure out WHO is Do Better Denver, or at least the main person or persons behind it.

interesting that they are more interested in the story teller than the story. UPDATE, the Post is apparently planning a story to "out" THREE people out of thousands who have submitted video to the account. Super.

CHINA FUNDS OUR GREEN ORGANIZATIONS WHILE RAMPING UP COAL USE China is in the process of digging many, many coal mines. How many? So many that they will overtake the two largest producers of coal on the planet soon. Why? Because they are also building a ton of coal fired power plants. So why are they funding green energy groups here in the US at the same time? I asked Grok if China was funding green groups in the US and this is what Grok said:

Yes, there are multiple reports, congressional inquiries, and analyses indicating that China, through entities closely tied to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), provides funding to U.S.-based green energy and climate advocacy organizations. These funds are often channeled via the Energy Foundation China (EFC), a U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that spun off from the original U.S. Energy Foundation in 2019. While technically headquartered in San Francisco, EFC operates primarily out of Beijing, with deep connections to CCP officials and oversight by China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). Critics argue this funding advances China's strategic interests by promoting policies that undermine U.S. fossil fuel production while boosting reliance on Chinese-dominated renewable supply chains, such as solar panels and batteries.EFC has reportedly granted over $500 million to more than 4,000 projects globally, including U.S. initiatives focused on energy conservation, efficiency, and decarbonization. Although EFC's primary focus is on China, it provides grants to some U.S. organizations working in these areas.

I just thought you should know.

MARRIAGE MAY BE MAKING A COMEBACK! There is good news in this article about marriage. News like this:

Since the early 1980s, the divorce rate has now fallen by almost 40 percent—and about half of that decline has happened in just the past 15 years. (Unless otherwise noted, all figures in this article are the result of my analysis of national data.) The idea that marriage will end in failure half the time or more—well entrenched in many American minds—is out-of-date. The proportion of first marriages expected to end in divorce has fallen to about 40 percent in recent years.
Second, nonmarital childbearing, after almost half a century of increase, stalled out in 2009 at 41 percent, ticking down to about 40 percent a few years later, where it has remained. For children, less divorce and a small decline in childbearing outside wedlock mean more stability. After falling for more than 40 years beginning in the late 1960s, the share of children living in married families bottomed out at 64 percent in 2012 before rising to 66 percent in 2024, according to the Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey. And the share of children raised in an intact married family for the duration of their childhood has climbed from a low point of 52 percent in 2014 to 54 percent in 2024.

Research established long ago that children do better in two parent homes and it's not even close. Married people tend to lead more stable lives so all this is good news.

KIDS WHO GET SMARTPHONES TOO SOON MAY HAVE SERIOUS MENTAL ISSUES This is one of the reasons we did the Wait Until 8th Pledge to not get The Q a phone until she was in 8th grade. She didn't die. Now we know that kids who get smartphones too young seem to end up with serious mental issues including suicide.

LIFESTYLE CHANGES MAY SLOW OR REVERSE ALZHEIMERS Not for everyone, but for enough that if anyone I know gets a diagnosis I'm going to suggest they look into this study that showed a slew of lifestyle changes including diet, exercise, and socialization helped a larger percentage of those in the study.
