Heat Advisory In Effect
(Melbourne, FL) --We're in for another really hot day in Central Florida. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the area from noon to 7:00 p.m. Heat index values could reach 112. That could cause heat illness. The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun and checking up on relatives and neighbors. Also, if you do go outside, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
Ghislaine Maxwell Lawyer: She Spoke About 100 Different People
(Tallahassee, FL) --Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyer says Friday she answered questions from the Justice Department about "100 different people" linked to her former accomplice Jeffrey Epstein. Speaking to reporters outside Maxwell's Florida prison, David Markus added "This was the first opportunity she's ever been given to answer questions about what happened." Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche talked to Maxwell over two days, and has not released any info from the interviews. Maxwell is serving a 20-year federal prison sentence in Tallahassee for sex trafficking.
Court To Hear Arguments Over Alligator Alcatraz
(Miami, FL) -- A hearing today could answer an unsettled question about Alligator Alcatraz. A federal judge in Miami will hear from a group of plaintiffs questioning who's running the immigrant detention facility in the Everglades. Americans for Immigrant Justice and others are arguing the inmates don't know what immigration court has jurisdiction over their cases. The plaintiffs are asking the judge to order DHS to designate an immigration court to hear their cases. Lawyers for the plaintiffs say clarity is urgently needed.
NASA Reports 3K Employees Leaving
(Cape Canaveral, FL)-- Thousands of NASA employees are taking advantage of early retirement. NASA recently announced three-thousand employees have accepted offers of early retirement or resigned. This amounts to about a fifth of its workforce. That leaves NASA with about 14-thousand civil servants.
Tech Company Turns To Gwyneth Paltrow After Kiss Cam Controversy
(Undated) -- The tech company at the center of a recent controversy involving two of its execs caught on a kiss cam at a Coldplay concert is turning to Gwyneth Paltrow for an assist. The former wife of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was hired to put a positive spin on the company whose now-former CEO and HR chief were seen cuddling with each other, rather their respective spouses. Paltrow has so far used what will be her limited time with Astronomer to put out a video fielding questions. They're basically all about the cheating scandal, but she manages to re-focus the conversation on things like data automation and "delivering game-changing results."
