The Battles Going on at San Diego City Hall

July 28, 2025

You’ve probably been hearing and seeing all the news out of San Diego’s City Hall in recent months. And a lot of it is about a lot of San Diegans not happy with several actions by the Mayor and the City Council since the first of the year.

There seems to be a lot more residents not liking more of the changes and plans being discussed at City Hall especially with the city’s big budget deficit.

The plan to charge fees for parking in Balboa Park is one the latest controversial thing a lot of people are unhappy about. And along with it, raising parking rates in other areas of the city.

The other headline is about the latest impact of the city of San Diego’s change a few months ago to charge homeowners for garbage pick-up and what that change means for apartment complexes where there is worry about their prices going up and trouble even finding a garbage hauler who will do the job.

And then there is the troublesome issue back in the news that has gone on for years and won’t go away. What the city wants to do with the old asbestos-filled downtown high rise office building known as just “101 Ash Street” that has already cost the city and taxpayers millions and millions of dollars.

These issues are hard ones to solve for sure but it appears that fighting city hall is alive and well in San Diego.
