Sean "Diddy" Combs is making another attempt to be released from jail ahead of his sentencing hearing.
According to a report TMZ published on Tuesday, July 29, the mogul's legal team filed a new motion for bail with Judge Arun Subramanian. In their new bail package, Combs' attorneys argued that the average person convicted of violating the Mann Act is released from custody before he or she is sentenced. He was found guilty on two Mann Act counts for hiring male prostitutes to have sex with his ex-girlfriends. Combs' attorneys argue he was simply living a swinger's lifestyle with Casandra "Cassie" Ventura and "Jane."
Combs' attorneys say the veteran artist never had sex with the prostitutes — only his girlfriends did. However, Judge Subramanian was more focused on Combs' alleged violent past with his former lovers when he denied his bail earlier this month. The judge cited violent instances that were discussed during the trial including the infamous video of Combs beating Cassie at a hotel in 2016 and the incidents Jane testified about on the stand. Combs' legal team owned the artist's assault on Cassie, but they argued that Combs only got violent after Jane provoked him. They claim it was his only violent instance since he broke up with Cassie.
Combs' bail package consists of a $50 million bond that uses the artist's estate in Florida as collateral and will be co-signed by three "financially responsible people." He must also surrender his passport and limit his travel from his home in Miami to the Southern District of New York. His attorneys are also open to other pre-trial conditions, including home detention, electronic surveillance, and more. Combs is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3.
