Abdul Robinson, Sr., the father of Jacksonville rapper Ksoo, said testifying his son was the "hardest decision I’ve had to make in my life.”
On Monday, July 28, Robinson, Sr. took the witness stand during his son Hakeem "Ksoo" Robinson's murder trial. According to WJXT News4JAX, the 54-year-old was called on by the state to identify his son in a video showing the shooting that killed Charles “Lil Buck” McCormick Jr. in 2020. Ksoo, his brother Abdul Robinson, Jr., and their cousin Leroy Whitaker were charged with murder and gun charges involving McCormick's death. When asked why he decided to testify, Robinson, Sr. cited "a number of reasons."
“I got some health issues,” he said. “I got two 6-year-olds and an 8-year-old daughter. When my 8-year-old daughter asked me when I'm going to come take her to the daddy-daughter dance... when she asked me over each year when I'm going to come take her there and I keep letting her down... then my 6-year-old son, he asked me when I'm gon' come to his football games, come take him fishing. My other 6-year-old he asking me when I'm gonna come see him... you know things like that."
Robinson, Sr. cited his degenerating health issues. He said he's a diabetic with high blood pressure and suffers from congestive heart failure. He also just found out that his kidneys are failing "rapidly." Robinson, Sr., also acknowledged that testifying against his son would make his life harder, especially when he gets out of prison.
Prosecutors allege McCormick was killed over an alleged diss track he made about Robinson, Sr.'s stepson, Willie Addison, who passed away in a drive-by shooting in 2019. They believe Robinson, Robinson, Jr., Whittaker, and the driver, Dominique “Butta” Barner, drove to McCormick's apartment and followed him to a shopping plaza in a stolen Nissan Altima. According to Barner, Ksoo allegedly hopped out of the car, started shooting at McCormick and chased him down until he killed him.
Robinson, Sr., was arrested in 2020 for allegedly helping Whitaker and Barner escape after the shooting. In exchange for his testimony, Ksoo's dad will face a maximum of 20 years in prison instead of a potential maximum of 60 years at his sentencing. Watch him testify below.
