A Calgary man is demanding accountability after a car rental experience through Turo that he found less than desirable. Krisztian Riez says he rented the car in February so he could pick up a friend in Montana. Getting into the U.S. was no problem, but getting back into the Great White North was a different story. Canadian border agents asked to search the car and Riez’s friend, and found “fentanyl on the steering wheel and backseat.” From there, everything was removed from the car, and the search dogs did their thing. Three hours later, 2mg of fentanyl was found. Turo is disputing Reiz’s claims, and says the car was “thoroughly cleaned” before it was rented out…though the company doesn’t actually own any of the cars they rent out through their AirBnB-like business model, so it was impossible for them to “physically inspect the car.” Riez was offered a refund and compensation for his time stuck at the border, but he says he’s more interested in “reform.”
