Ice Cube Defends $5M Big3 Offer to Caitlin Clark, Not Angel Reese
July 30, 2025
Ice Cube is once again under fire over his decision to offer Caitlin Clark a $5 million deal to play in his Big3 basketball league, a deal he didn’t offer to fellow rising star Angel Reese.
In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Ice Cube explained the reason behind the move. He said the offer to Clark was driven by sponsor support, not personal favoritism. “Angel Reese is a great player,” he said, “but the thing with Caitlin Clark is her stardom. What our sponsors were saying to us… they didn’t tell us the same thing about Angel Reese.”
Cube went on to explain that the potential impact on the league was a major factor in the decision. “I don’t think we can make that same offer because it won’t have the same impact to the league,” he added.
The $5 million deal would’ve made Clark the highest-paid women’s basketball player ever, but she ultimately turned it down to focus on her WNBA career and endorsement opportunities.
