This Week's Weird News 8/1/25

August 1, 2025

A possible Bigfoot video from California, a German crop circle with a short shelf life, and an Indian infant who bit a cobra snake to death were among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this past week.

A pair of videos possibly 'starring' two iconic cryptids, Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, made headlines this past week. First, a man visiting the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California inadvertently filmed a large dark figure dashing through the woods a short distance away from his dog, who was playing in the snow. The moment went unnoticed by the witness until he later looked at the video and was left to wonder if the eerie interloper was Sasquatch. Later in the week, compelling footage from Loch Ness showed a puzzling anomaly that briefly surfaced and seemingly swam against the tide. Though the object could have been a seal or a log, one supposes that it could also have been the site's famed 'monster.'

A crop circle story from a different perspective crossed our desk this past week when it was learned that one of the mysterious formations had appeared in Germany, but only lasted for a few days. The peculiar design, which resembled the spiked ball of the Morning Star medieval weapon, sparked considerable interest in the country as the phenomenon is something of a rare occurrence there. As people began swarming the property, the farmer who owns the field knew his whole wheat crop could be endangered by the influx of visitors. As such, he harvested the fantastic formation a few days after it was found. Despite the mystical powers often associated with crop circles, the farmer amusingly observed that "I didn't feel anything when I drove over it."

Easily the wildest story of the week came by way of India, where an infant stunningly bit a cobra snake to death. The one-year-old boy, identified as Govinda, was briefly left unattended when the deadly creature suddenly slithered around his hands. Not realizing the danger he was in, the curious tot turned the cobra into a chew toy, which spelled its demise. In the process of inadvertently saving himself from the perilous predicament, Govinda ingested a small amount of the creature's venom, causing him to faint. Fortunately, prompt medical treatment put the boy on the road to recovery with an amazing tale that will likely follow him for the rest of his life.
