At Home, a Texas-based home decor chain, plans to close 32 stores by September as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. The company, which operates 200 stores nationwide, initially announced in June that it would close 20 locations. Recently, six more stores were added to the closure list.
The closures are part of At Home's strategy to manage its $2 billion debt and navigate challenges such as inflation, reduced consumer spending, and tariffs. According to The Daily Mail, CEO Brad Weston cited President Donald Trump's tariff policies as a significant factor impacting the business. He stated, "We are operating against the backdrop of an increasingly dynamic and rapidly evolving trade environment as we navigate the impact of tariffs."
The store closures will reduce At Home's physical footprint by over 10%. The company aims to improve its financial resilience and competitiveness in the marketplace. The affected locations will continue to accept gift cards and loyalty rewards until August 14, with sales running until all merchandise is sold.
At Home is one of several retailers facing bankruptcy due to economic pressures, including declining in-store traffic and competition from e-commerce.
